He co-founded Lords Of The New Church in 1981 and played on four of their albums. James also recorded with the Dripping Lips and the Racketeers and released five solo albums.

Adcock played banjo, guitar and mandolin. During his tenure with the Country Gentlemen, 1959-70, the band released eight studio albums and two live albums. That "classic" lineup of the band was inducted into the Bluegrass Music Hall Of Fame in 1994. Adcock also recorded with Don Reno, Talk Of The Town, IInd Generation and his own group, The Eddie Adcock Band.
