    Rado – his full name was James Alexander Radomski – and his partner Gerome Ragni began writing Hair in 1964. The musical opened off-Broadway in October 1967 and opened on Broadway in April 1968. In 1969, Hair was nominated for a Tony award for best musical and won a Grammy award for best musical.
