On October 16, Donald Trump -- the pot calling the kettle black -- tweeted that he hopes "Crooked Hillary" will run again because she's "good for the Republican party." In a recent Washington Post column, historian Michael Brenes explains why Hillary "would be well-positioned to win in a rematch."

Hillary 2020? Trump had better hope not.

Donna Brazile predicts more than 25 people will run against Trump in 2020
    Veuer, Nov 25 2017 9:58 M

Former DNC interim chair Donna Brazile is making a bold prediction for the 2020 presidential race. In a conversation with MSNBC’s Chris Matthews she addressed potential Democratic contenders" "I predict there will be more than 25 people who will consider running for president. Perhaps Joe Biden, Bernie Sanders." When pressed as to whether 75-year-old Biden or 76-year-old Sanders would be too old to run for president in an election that's still nearly three years away, Brazile said no: "I think the Democratic Party should allow everybody to run, everybody who wants to run. Let's not dog people just because of their age."

At 70 years of age on his Inauguration Day, President Donald Trump became the oldest president to enter the Oval Office earlier this year. Brazile said Biden and Sanders should be able to run if they can "reinvigorate" the party or bring fresh ideas to the table, then said Hillary Clinton or Senator Elizabeth Warren could also run if they wanted. Other rumored contenders for the 2020 race on the Democratic side include Senators Cory Booker of New Jersey, Kirsten Gillibrand of New York and Kamala Harris of California.

The aforementioned freshman Democratic Senator from California is viewed favorably by oddsmakers -- if that means anything.

Poll: 31% of Republicans want a different presidential nominee in 2020
    NBC News, Dec 5 2017 1:03 PM

President Donald Trump continues to enjoy robust support within the Republican Party but about a third of his own political partisans still say they would prefer a different Republican at the top of the ticket in 2020, according to a new survey from the Public Religion Research Institute. Thirty-one percent of Republicans say they'd like to see a different GOP nominee in the next presidential election, while 63 percent say they're happy with the current president running for reelection as the party's standard-bearer.

While Trump's support for reelection is solid among those who backed his 2016 run, he has done little to assuage the concerns of Republicans who supported one of his opponents during the 2016 GOP primary. Among Republicans who didn't back Trump's primary run, 60 percent say they would prefer to replace him on the ballot for 2020, while just 34 percent want him to be the nominee.

The new survey finds that Trump's stalwart base — those who backed him during the 2016 primary and support his reelection — stands at about 40% of Americans who identify with or lean toward the GOP. About 18% of Republicans and Republican-leaning independents declined to support Trump in 2016 or for the 2020 primary contest. Trump's overall approval rating in the PRRI study remains historically low, at just 41%. And 40% of Americans believe the president should be impeached and removed from office.

This plan would end the practice of delegates committing to a candidate before any votes are cast. What a concept!

Democrats are setting themselves up perfectly to pummel Republicans on sexual harassment in 2018
    Business Insider, Dec 8 2017 10:58 PM

After Democrats successfully pressured Sen. Al Franken and Rep. John Conyers, both powerful Democratic lawmakers, to leave office amid allegations of sexual misconduct, the GOP is facing growing pressure to apply the same scrutiny to its own members. Political operatives and commentators argue that Democrats have seized the "moral high ground" on issues relating to sexual misconduct, and that spells trouble for the GOP.

Democrats have stripped the GOP of its ability to point fingers at the Democrats in defending politicians like Roy Moore, President Donald Trump and Rep. Blake Fahrenthold, a Texas Republican who paid $84,000 in taxpayer money to settle a sexual harassment complaint brought by a female staffer. John Stoehr, a progressive journalist, wrote in a Newsweek column on Wednesday that "amid this climate of sexual misconduct and accountability, the party is signaling to every woman out there that the Democrats are for them."

Democrats hold biggest lead in Congressional preference since 2008
    NBC News, Dec 17 2017 3:51 PM

Fresh off their victory in Alabama’s special Senate election, Democrats now enjoy their largest advantage in Congressional preference in nine years, according to the latest NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll, signaling a dangerous political environment for Republicans entering next year’s midterm elections.

Fifty percent of registered voters say they prefer a Democratic-controlled Congress, versus 39 percent who want Republicans in charge. The last time Democrats both held a double-digit lead and hit 50 percent on this question in the NBC/WSJ poll was September 2008, right before the party won the White House and picked up a substantial number of House and Senate seats.
