FBI says many of the rioters were on the terrorist watch list and the attack on the Capitol appears to have been planned. It was not spontaneous.

GOP Congressman who voted to overturn election results admits 2020 race not fraudulent
    CNN, Jan 24 2121 2:50 PM ET

Republican Representative Madison Cawthorn of North Carolina said Saturday that he accepts Joe Biden as President and that the 2020 election was not conducted fraudulently. The freshman Congressman made the comments to CNN's Pamela Brown when pressed about his lingering views on the November election results. "Yes, I think I would say that the election was not fraudulent. You know, the Constitution allowed for us to be able to push back as much as we could and I did that to the amount of the Constitutional limits that I had at my disposal. So now I would say that Joseph R. Biden is our President," Cawthorn said.

Cawthorn was one of more than 120 House GOP members who voted to sustain the objection to electoral votes from Arizona and Pennsylvania earlier this month when Congress met to to certify President-elect Biden's victory. Since Biden's inauguration, Cawthorn has signed onto a letter along with 16 other GOP House freshmen, saying they look forward to working with Biden.

Donald Trump's blindly loyal supporters believe his lie that he won the election "by a landslide" but it was "stolen" from him. On January 6, he incited them to an insurrection at the Capitol. Trump is no longer President but his blindly loyal supporters remain determined to avenge his supposed "stolen" victory. Today, acting US Capitol Police Chief Yogananda Pittman is recommending permanent fencing be installed around the Capitol as a protection against violent pro-Trump extremists.

Donald Trump and House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy met yesterday to formulate plans for Retrumplicans regaining control of the House and Senate in 2022. Here is why we should be very very afraid of that happening:

Republican ties to extremist groups are under scrutiny
A number of members of Congress have links to organizations and movements that played a role in the January 6 assault on the Capitol.

So far, 400 people who took part in the January 6 Trump-incited insurrection at the Capitol have been identified and more than 200 have been charged with crimes including conspiracy, unlawful entry into a restricted building, assault, disorderly conduct, destruction of property and obstruction of police officers. Many of the rioters are members of the Proud Boys, Oath Keepers, Three Percenters and other white supremacy groups. They all love Donald Trump, who, four four years, served as the White-Supremacist-In-Chief.

Retrumplicans do not support democracy – and now Microsoft is refusing to support Retrumplicans.

Microsoft halts donations to lawmakers who opposed Biden certification
    Reuters, Feb 5 2021 11:49 AM

Microsoft said on Friday it will suspend all donations by its political action committee (PAC) through 2022 to all US lawmakers who voted to object to the certification of Joe Biden’s election as President. The software maker will also suspend contributions through the same period for state officials and organizations who supported objections or suggested the election should be overturned. Microsoft said it “will promote and join a conversation with other businesses and organizations that want to strengthen democracy. Recent events have raised issues of importance to PACs across the business community.”

"I just want to find 11,780 votes, which is one more than we have because we won the state," declared delusional Donald. No, Donald, you did not win Georgia – and now you're under investigation for pressuring Georgia's Secretary of State to "find" more votes for you. You wanted him to cheat to help you win the election. Wow.

Today the Supreme Court dismissed the final two challenges to the 2020 election results. Trump still says he won. He did not.

In a January 2 phone call, Trump pressured Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger to "find" 11,780 more votes, enough to enable Trump to win the state (which he lost). Federal law says it is a felony to "knowingly attempt to deprive or defraud the residents of a State of a fair and impartially conducted election process” through “the procurement, casting or tabulation of ballots that are known by the person to be materially false, fictitious or fraudulent under the laws of the State in which the election is held.” To convict Trump of this felony, prosecutors will have to prove beyond reasonable doubt that Trump knew he lost the election and that he knew any newly found votes would be fraudulent. That will not be easy. Teflon Don will likely get away with yet another crime.

Georgia prosecutor probing Trump taps leading racketeering attorney
    Reuters, Mar 6 2021 2:26 PM

The district attorney investigating whether former President Donald Trump illegally interfered with Georgia’s 2020 election has hired an outside lawyer who is a national authority on racketeering. Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis has enlisted the help of Atlanta lawyer John Floyd, who wrote a national guide on prosecuting state racketeering cases. Floyd was hired recently to “provide help as needed” on matters involving racketeering, including the Trump investigation and other cases..

The move bolsters the team investigating Trump as Willis prepares to issue subpoenas for evidence on whether the former President and his allies broke the law in their campaign to pressure state officials to reverse his Georgia election loss. Willis has said that her office would examine potential charges including “solicitation of election fraud, the making of false statements to state and local governmental bodies, conspiracy and racketeering” among other possible violations.
