Another fire broke out this morning near the Getty Center in Bel Air and quickly grew to more than 50 acres. Several homes have burned. In 1961, a huge two-day fire in Bel Air destroyed nearly 500 homes. Many belonged to celebrities such as Burt Lancaster, Zsa Zsa Gabor and Fred MacMurray.

The Thomas Fire has burned more than 55,000 acres and has reached the Pacific Ocean. The Creek Fire and Rye Fire are still burning. The San Bernardino fire is mostly out, except for a few "hot spots."

The fire in Bel Air is being called the Skirball Fire, after the nearby Skirball Museum and Skirball Cultural Center, named for philanthropists Jack and Audrey Skirball. The fire has now burned more than 150 acres and destroyed six homes. Five hundred firefighters are battling the blaze. Thankfully the high winds of the past two days have died down.

The news gets worserer and worserer. The Thomas Fire continues to rage out of control. It has burned 65,000 acres and is threatening 100,000 homes. The Rye Fire has burned 7,000 acres so far. The Creek Fire has now burned 11,400 acres and has destroyed 30 homes. The owners of Rancho Padilla, a ranch that boards horses, were unable to get all the horses evacuated before the fire swept in. They rescued 31 horses but 29 perished in the fire. Very sad.

The Creek Fire has now burned 14,000 acres. The Bel Air fire has burned 475 acres and is only 5% contained. High winds are expected again tonight.

The Thomas Fire in Ventura County continues to rage out of control. It has burned a 20-mile stretch of mountains from Santa Paula to the Pacific Ocean -- 90,000 acres so far. That is 140 square miles. More than 150 homes have been destroyed and thousands more are threatened. Tonight the fire is moving west toward the town of Fillmore and the 30-mile-an-hour winds are back. Yikes!

Each of the four huge fires is now 5% contained. The Thomas Fire is contained only on the southeast flank near Santa Paula. It is threatening the coastal communities in Ojai and Santa Barbara. This morning, two more fires broke out -- in Malibu and Ontario.

Two more wildfires have broken out in southern California. One, called the Liberty Fire, has burned more than 300 acres near Murrieta in Riverside County. Another, called the Lilac Fire, has burned more than 3,000 acres and destroyed 20 homes and buildings near Bonsall in San Diego County. The fire is threatening Vista and Oceanside. The Ventura County fire is still just 5% contained and has burned 96,000 acres. It is moving northward up the coast.

Rams punter Johnny Hekker woke up Tuesday, saw the devastation caused by the Thomas fire in Ventura County and wanted to help. He and his wife Makayla spent part of the day at a Target store in Newbury Park buying supplies to deliver to a shelter at the Ventura County fairgrounds. They spent about 45 minutes at the shelter unloading sweatpants, sweatshirts, socks, diapers, toys and some sports equipment before shaking hands with volunteers and meeting with displaced residents. "These people support us throughout the season and are big fans of us," Hekker said. "If we can do anything to give back to them in this crisis, then that’s what we’re here for."

The Lilac Fire north of Oceanside is moving westward and has now burned 3,600 acres. Several horses died because they refused to leave their stables as flames approached. Very sad.

I have family in Oceanside and they were told to be ready to evacuate at any time. They put extra clothes and all their important papers and photos in their car and now they're just waiting. A lot of their neighbors have already left.
