Hello all! I'm new to the world of satellite radio and SiriusXM. I drive my mother's old '91 CRX HF. Since I've started driving it, it has received a few stereo upgrades.

First being the head unit, which she had an older Pioneer CD player that hardly functioned. Replaced it with a newer JVC with USB and AUX input capabilities.

The speakers she had (they were installed before she bought the car used from someone else) were two Pioneers in the back and two Sony Xplods in the front. The Sonys were completely blown and torn, so they were thrown out and the Pioneers were moved to the front so that I could place a couple of Kickers in the back (6.5" speakers). The Pioneers sounded like crap, but were passable for a little while until I replaced them a few hours ago with a new set of Sony Xplods that I bought at work (I work at Wal-Mart).

I also have a little subwoofer behind the driver seat that is plugged into a power inverter. It was originally meant to be part of a PC speaker set, but I got it for free and figured that it'd make a small difference as far as bass goes in such a small car, and indeed it does.

When we were installing the JVC unit, my mother decided to take the FM antenna wiring so she could use it in her project car, an older CRX Si. So, since I started driving this car, there has been no FM radio. This was fine for awhile since I have a phone with a crap ton of music on it. But, it got old having to switch tracks and what not while trying to drive. I kinda missed being able to just put the radio on and forget about it.

I don't like the local radio stations where I live as they always play commercials and are always playing songs I don't like. And they rarely change their playlist, so they'll play the same songs every day for weeks. Also, I can't listen to radio that has any degree of noticeable static (noticeable to me). As such, I deemed FM to not be worth the trouble of setting back up in the car. This is where SiriusXM comes in.

I was walking around the Wal-Mart I work at with my wife. She went to go look at baby clothes for a baby shower she'll be attending in a few months, so I decided to take my usual stroll through the electronics department. I wound up catching sight of the two SiriusXM radios they had in stock and decided that it'd be worth a shot. So I picked up the cheapest of the two, the Onyx Ez, the other one being the Stratus 7.

Now my first attempt to wire things up and install the antenna was a botch as it allowed water into the car via the seal on the driver's side door. So, in an attempt to fix my mistake, I decided to rewire it. Doing my best to avoid pinching the antenna wire, I wound up causing the wire to literally break in half, rendering it useless. So, I had to go back to Wal-Mart and buy a whole new kit. We don't sell the antenna by itself, and I'm already hooked on XM radio, so waiting for shipping wasn't an option either. So I just bought the new kit just for a new antenna. The third installation attempt went flawlessly.

I placed the antenna next to the original AM/FM antenna so that it wouldn't look quite as obvious.

Doing so allowed me to run the wire around the FM antenna and down the side of the windshield, tucked underneath the strip so it'd be harder to see. The wire goes down into that small gap between the two strips and into a small hole behind the door hinge.

Then the wire goes underneath the hinge, with a bit of slack as to keep it from getting pinched on the hinge, and then tucked into a groove on the edge of the door that leads to the speaker grill.

I tucked it underneath the grill on one side and pulled it out from the bottom.

From there it goes underneath the dash into an opening that allows the cable to travel up into a groove along the dash, behind the defrost heater vents.

From there, it goes to about the center of the windshield, where I have a piece of tape holding it to allow a little bit of tension to keep the wire from moving around. It then travels down the center of the dash and plugs into the radio.

The radio itself is plugged into my JVC head unit via AUX input.

The radio is powered via the cigarette lighter adapter plugged into the power inverter (which is plugged into the only 12V output built into the car).

All the wiring is bundled up as neatly as possible with zip ties - http://i1379.photobucket.com/albums/...ps944b4790.jpg

I know that this isn't the best way of doing it, but it's the only way I could figure out to do it without causing any damage to the car itself. The only thing I have to watch out for is that antenna wire between the dash and the door when I get in and out of the car as I left enough slack to allow me to open the door all the way without putting too much tension on the wire.

What do ya'll think?

Oh, and I love listening to my new radio! SiriusXM all the way!
