I agree, Ladd has got to go. He plays the same crap on his show that can be heard on any classic rock station on the FM dial. I pay for satellite radio so I can hear the music that doesn't get played on FM radio. Plus, his political rants are ridiculous. Deep Tracks is far and away my favorite station until Ladd's show comes on...then it's Jam On for me. Please, Sirius...give us a DJ who understands what Deep Tracks is all about!

It's been a great week of evenings with Dan Neer actually playing deep tracks while filling in for Jim Ladd. Unfortunately, Ladd's back on Monday so I'm sure it'll be back to his usual Pink Floyd / Doors / Rush / Fogerty et al that he plays EVERY SHOW. Think I'll spend my Ladd respite over on Underground Garage this week.

Well, I'm very happy to read that I'm not the only one left who doesn't appreciate their hard-earned being used to fund ignorant political rants coming out of high in the Hollywood hills. After enjoying Earle Bailey's excellent shows for quite some time now, it has become increasingly difficult to stay tuned to the Jim "Thorogood" Ladd's shows. I've made an effort to hang in to see if he'll ever "open it up," so to speak, but last night's rant comparing southerners to nazis was the final nail. As an active duty vet, I've lived all over the world and seen a lot of different "scenery" in my day. If Jim ever saw what it's like in the 3rd world, he might think that some of our freedoms -- like the one that allows him to make uniformed rants (the 1st amendment) -- are pretty precious. I've settled in the northeast, but my years in uniform exposed me to people from all over the US ... and I can tell you, from experience, that the southerners I served with were the salt-of-the-earth and the ones you wanted next to you when things got tough. Apparently, Jim has totally forgotten about what the fascist mentality that disparaged young people in the 60s was like. As someone who regularly employs both sexual and drug-culture innuendo to make a living, I would think that Jim Ladd would be one of the last north American's to support the book-burning culture of the past. Enough with the alienation of "other" regions of the country. Just play your rockabilly, Jim, and enjoy the rights that those crosses in Arlington represent.

Lord, PLEASE have mercy! I'll admit that Jim occasionally comes up with a nice segue or "free form" set, but I've had it with his show. Unless some shows are repeated, he seems to open with the same songs at times. His "rock" opening always includes Van Halen, UFO and that same Status Quo song. This guy has the greatest job on earth. He should spend a little more time trying to dig deeper.

I'm a devoted listener to Deep tracks (over ten years) and a Sirius stockholder (over fifteen years).
I scratch my head every time Jim Ladd takes to the air waves. "Free Form Radio"...oh boy!
Living in Chicago, WXRT has been playing thematic sets of music for OVER 40 YEARS....this is nothing "new" or "innovative".
I can stomach some of this but what the hell is with the political commentary??? I listen to the radio to be entertained, not to be "lectured" "trained" or "instructed". There are plenty of political channels to listen to if I were into that. Quite frankly, I couldn't care less if Jim Ladd lives or dies. That's not why I subscribe. He has to realize that his ONLY job is to play music and entertain ME.
So shut the hell up and play your little musical sets. That is the ONLY reason that you have a job.
Better yet........Consider Retirement!!!!!

You will find one central theme of all posters who actually like Jim Ladd. They all mention the "early days"...decades ago.

Here's a big I LOVE JIM LADD'S eve program!!!!!!! I have my clock set for his show. Have not heard anything offensive . He gets close, but stops short of direct blows. LUVLUVLUVLUV his music choices !!!!!!! ROCK ON JIM LADD !!!!!

I made my initial post concerning Jim Ladd four years ago. I see several people agree that Jim Ladd should go. No doubt there are many more, we are just the ones mad enough to voice our opinions. However in spite of the many complaints, particularly concerning his political views, XM chose to keep him. By doing so, his brand of politics seemed to spread to Classic Vinyl and Classic Rewind. Highly unfortunate.

I am not a Liberal/Progressive/Socialist. No, I'm not a Republican either. I'm a Moderate Independent - who likes classic rock and roll from my generation.

XM has channels for political discourse. I don't (didn't) listen to them. That's not why I purchased yearly subscriptions to XM.

I've been an XM subscriber ever since there was an XM. I bought XM for Deep Tracks. For the MUSIC!

For me, the addition of Jim Ladd led to the demise of Deep Tracks. His unlimited freedom to voice his political opinions - and degrade the entire southern region of the United States - allowed his views, and the unabridged freedom to express them, to spread like a virus to the alternative stations I chose to listen to in order to avoid Jim Ladd when he DJ'd Deep Tracks.

My complaint was simply this; just play the music and keep the political views (liberal or conservative) where they belonged - on XM's political channels.

I made it four years after filing my initial complaint. But this year I cancelled my subscription.

XM has gotten so big, they no longer care about the subscribers, their wants or their complaints. They ignore the very people - the subscribers - who made them successful.

And that's unfortunate. I really liked XM. But I exercised my power in this equation. I cancelled my subscription.

I've been an XM subscriber for about 10 years and never felt compelled to file a complaint - that is until "The Legendary" Jim Ladd took over Deep Tracks in weekly prime time. I listened to his program and gave him a chance, then spent way too much time talking back to my radio. Finally... I had had enough and made my first complaint to XM ListenerCare hoping they would pass my complaint along to those in charge.

I was glad to run across this Forum and learn that I'm not alone in my distaste for Jim Ladd. He should stay in the Hollywood Hills - and off my XM radio. In fact, when his show comes on I make it a point to change stations even though, in the past, I had generally listened to Deep Tracks exclusively. I have learned one thing by doing this... Jam On is MUCH better than Jim Ladd.

I'm going to include my complaint to XM in this post. I'm in hopes that others will join the cause and help get Jim Ladd off Deep Tracks.

My all time favorite channel has been DEEP TRACKS, that is until Jim Ladd took over on weeknights. He plays some great music, but seems to think he's still working on FM and has to continually talk during the music.

Like the critics once told Frank Zappa, "Shut up and play your guitar," Jim Ladd should shut up and play the music.

I regret having to complain. I really enjoy my XM radio. Unfortunately, after many years as a subscriber, I finally felt compelled to do so. Please put the old crew back on DEEP TRACKS and move Jim Ladd someplace else."

One of the main reasons I listen to Jim is both his musical selections and his views political or otherwise...If you don't like his commentaries ...make a dance mix and listen to that instead...there's a reason it's called free form radio
