around 2005 or so, I emailed one of the dj's about this issue. I told them they keep playing the same overhyped tracks over and over and that it basically sounds like my local hip hop radio station, and that it shouldn't since im payin money for it.
they read it on air the next day and talked shit about it for the broadcast. even took calls about it. Unfortunately i was just on my way to work and didnt listen to the whole thing. But it was funny, and i havent turned my radio to the hip hop stations since.
if you are or ever were a hip hop fan you must check out the Hip Hop Nation
at noon for the Gmixx and everynight from 10pm to 2am...its what hip hop is
all about and nothing ive ever heard compares EVER! ANYWHERE!
ok well they appear to have ****ed up and got rid of leo g.
Listening to the 3 hour eminem special on shade 45 right now in hour 2.25, its real good.
Romo, what is your feelings about HHN adding a lot of old school songs into rotation? It has deepend the rotation but do you think they should be putting more new or underground songs there and leave the old school for Backspin or do you like how they have mixed it all together?
Good question...
First I wouldn't call them old skool, I would be very upset if they started playing songs any earlier that the mid 90's....
according to the surveys they are playing from the mid 90's on, and I like that they have done that.
I absolutely do not want to hear any sugar hill and the gang (no disrespect to SHG though) I emailed the day lights to them last year when I was hearing R&B and old skool on HHN before the changes started. I started using my brothers sirius account online but i had XM on directv. So it was the first I heard Sirius Rap channels.
Mid to late 90's is ok, old skool would be bad.
I think there was a new Drop this morning that said "New Sh!t" on my xmp3 screen that I hadn't seen before, so maybe they are listening because I always say on the survey "all i want to hear is new music"
Im not like those people that live in a decade past...i always want to hear new music...but good rotation is cool too if some of the stuff i heard growing up gets played (as long as its the bomb)

to add on...there is a lot of hardcore underground rap that didn't get played on the FM dial in the 90's...that would be my preference.
And i don't think i could ever hear enough Biggie...honestly.
Yeah, I guess calling a song from the mid 90's old skool is pushing it. Backspin plays a few songs from the Mid 90's which is what probably got me thinking of that. Something else I find interesting is that they seem to play songs based on the time slot. For example every night on Nina 9's slot they always play Mafia Music Remix. I've not seen the song played at any other time than on her slot, they do this with quite a few songs..I find it to be a little weird.
who is the chick who filled in for Celo on saturday...and i heard her this morning.
That's Renada Romain. She use to be on HHN pre-merger on the 'after hours spot' . DJ Envy is on now so i'm guess the new line up is Renada 6-12, Envy 12-6, and Nina 6-10. The only thing I can hope from this is that they give Envy a mixshow at 5, he had one pre-merger as well for an hour called 'The Nation's Mix' . I feel like 5PM mix show is a must, if their's no way of getting Leo back than Envy could fill some of the void, atleast.
