In one of his usual idiotic tweets, King Donald the First declared, "The Fake News Media and their partner, the Democrat Party, is doing everything within its semi-considerable power (it used to be greater!) to inflame the CoronaVirus situation." News flash, King Donald: Reporting news of the virus does not make the virus spread faster. Hey, maybe if you get the virus, you can call it a "hoax" and a "witch hunt."
The UK is in a state of 'genuine disbelief' about how bad Trump's response to the coronavirus outbreak has been
UK government officials say the President's slow response and his tweets seeking to downplay the spread of the virus has triggered disbelief among Prime Minister Boris Johnson's administration.

Letter from Kim Hemphill of South Riding, Virginia in today's Los Angeles Times:
"It is abundantly clear that President Trump cares mostly about the market response to the coronavirus outbreak and he will misrepresent any fact that puts him in a bad light. He has leaned almost fully on the economy to convince people that it is all that matters when it comes to judging his performance as President. Therefore, his answer to the coronavirus is to crank up the lies and misinformation while the thought of actually protecting the American public does not naturally occur to him. He has also put fear into the minds of our federal experts lest they say something to draw his ego-driven wrath, even if what's being said is factual. As the response leader, Vice President Mike Pence laughably gives credit to Trump for anything positive that happens. This is no way to run a disaster response."

Letter from Gary Vogt of Menifee in today's Los Angeles Times:
"When addressing the nation at a time of crisis, American Presidents have historically risen to the occasion and projected to the people a sense of preparedness, decisiveness, resolve and empathy. Think of Lincoln at Gettysburg, Roosevelt after Pearl Harbor and Bush after 9/11. Trump's speech to the nation, on the other hand, reminded me of a hostage being forced to read a script. This is a man who seems incapable of feeling empathy and cannot understand and appreciate the fears and concerns, both medically and economically, of most Americans concerning the coronavirus. Trump views everything through the lens of how it affects him and who he can blame if anything goes wrong. A wise person once said, 'Crisis doesn't change people; it reveals them.'"

Maria Cardona, a contributor to CNN, The Hill, RealClearPolitics, US News & World Report and other news outlets, says a President should offer "encouragement, empathy, leadership, the truth and solutions" in times of crisis. Trump's response to the coronavirus pandemic provided none of that. Instead, we got "irresponsible sugar-coating, political blaming, grandstanding and a botched Oval Office address that was remarkable for its lack of solutions, its xenophobic undertones and its outright untruths." I doubt any of us expected anything else from the pompous, egotistical, narcissistic, self-serving, self-worshipping, orange-skinned buffoon who thinks everything is about him.

New York City's public school system serves 1,100,000 students and is the largest in the country. All its schools are now closed until April 20.
