Lester Holt tops a new poll which ranks 49 national news anchors by their trustworthiness. He is trusted "a lot" by 32% of respondents. On the other end of the scale, Sean Hannity is not trusted "at all" by 30% of the respondents and only 8% say Hannity is non-partisan. Those 8% must not be aware that Sean Hannity and Rush Limbaugh are co-presidents of the Donald Trump Fan Club & Booster Society.

We have a President who constantly calls reporters "disgraceful" and "dishonest" and tells them they ask "stupid questions." We have a President who constantly denounces the news media as "fake news" and "the enemy of the American people." We have a President who tries to silence his critics and who revokes the credentials of journalists who ask questions he doesn't like. All the Davids are finally rising up in battle against this Goliath dictator who refuses to respect the First Amendment of the Constitution of the United States of America.

Sarah Sanders insists reporters do not have an "absolute First Amendment right to access the White House." A federal judge agreed -- but he said when reporters are at the White House the First Amendment applies. Sanders grudgingly announced that Acosta's press pass would be "temporarily" restored. How magnanimous of her!

A federal judge ordered the White House to return Jim Acosta's press pass but the order was only for a 14-day period and the White House plans to revoke it again. Trump says he's working on a set of standards for journalists at press conferences. That means he revoked Acosta's press pass for a supposed violation of standards that have not yet been written. Executives at Fox News aren't criticizing Tucker Carlson for his hateful comments. They're criticizing what they call the "far-left activist groups" who object to Carlson's hateful comments. That is typical of Fox News. Since the following story came out, CareerBuilder, TD Ameritrade and Takeda Pharmaceuticals have also pulled their advertising from Carlson's show. He's lost 17 sponsors.......so far.
Tucker Carlson dropped by at least 14 advertisers in wake of immigration flap
TheWrap, Dec 18 2018
At least 14 advertisers have dropped Tucker Carlson Tonight after the Fox News host said in a show last Thursday that immigrants to the United States made the country "poorer and dirtier and more divided."
IHOP, Just For Men, ScotteVest, Voya Financial, United Explorer, Pacific Life, Indeed, Bowflex, Zenni Optical, SmileDirectClub, NerdWallet, Minted, Jaguar and Ancestry.com have all announced plans to suspend advertising on the program. Carlson addressed the growing boycott campaign against his sponsors over his on-air remarks about immigration, telling viewers that he would not be intimidated.

Pfizer, Samsung and SodaStream have joined the growing list of companies pulling their ads from Tucker Carlson's program in response to his anti-immigrant rhetoric. Fox News' website describes Carlson as "the sworn enemy of lying, pomposity, smugness and group think." Really? They probably got his height and weight wrong, too.

In a 1967 Rolling Stones song, Mick Jagger asked, "Who wants yesterday's papers? Who wants yesterday's girl?" I don't know about the girl -- but tomorrow morning many thousands of newspaper subscribers nationwide will be reading "yesterday's papers" because today's papers couldn't be printed on schedule. Here is why:
Cyberattack from outside the US hits newspapers across the country, preventing distribution
Los Angeles Times, Dec 29 2018 4:55 PM
A cyberattack that appears to have originated from outside the United States caused major printing and delivery disruptions today at several newspapers across the country. The attack led to distribution delays in the Saturday edition of the Los Angeles Times, San Diego Union-Tribune, Chicago Tribune, Baltimore Sun, New York Daily News, Hartford Courant, Ventura County Star, Orlando Sentinel, Fort Lauderdale Sun-Sentinel and the Annapolis Capital Gazette, which all operate on a shared production platform.
"We believe the intention of the attack was to disable infrastructure, more specifically servers, as opposed to looking to steal information," said a source, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to comment publicly.
Tribune Publishing said in a statement that "the personal data of our subscribers, online users and advertising clients has not been compromised. We apologize for any inconvenience and thank our readers and advertising partners for their patience as we investigate the situation. News and all of our regular features are available online."
The Los Angeles Times said the problem was first detected Friday. Technology teams made significant progress in fixing it but were unable to clear all systems before press time. The attack seemed to have begun late Thursday night and by Friday had spread to crucial software systems needed to publish the paper.

Her Megyn Kelly Today show did not get good ratings -- and after she drew a lot of criticism for saying there's nothing wrong with kids trick-or-treating in blackface, Megyn Kelly soon found herself out of a job. She isn't crying, though. She will still get the remaining $30 million of her pay.

Denver-based Digital First Media has become the nation's third-largest newspaper company by buying underperforming newspapers and then cutting costs. The company owns 65 daily papers and 30 weekly papers including the Denver Post, Detroit News, Boston Herald, Oakland Tribune, Salt Lake Tribune, San Bernardino Sun, Pasadena Star-News and Fairbanks Daily News-Miner. Judging by the way the company's buying, newspapers aren't dying.

I'm not sure the National Enquirer really counts as "news media." The tabloid, founded in 1926, tried to blackmail Jeff Bezos, bought and then killed the stories of two women with whom Donald Trump had affairs, tried to discredit Harvey Weinstein's accusers, falsely claimed Hillary Clinton was a lesbian, falsely claimed Antonin Scalia was assassinated by a hooker and falsely claimed Richard Simmons underwent sex-change surgery. But if you'd like to own the Enquirer, now is your chance.
