George Cameron, drummer and founding member of the Left Banke, a New York quintet known for Walk Away Renee in 1966 and Pretty Ballerina in 1967, has left this earth. He died today of cancer at age 70.

Ed Simons, a violinst and music teacher and the oldest active conductor in America, died June 26 at age 101. He formed a symphony orchestra in 1952 and led it for more than 60 years. He conducted eight Broadway musicals including Camelot and My Fair Lady. On September 11, 2017, at age 100, he conducted a performance of Samuel Barber's Adagio in Nyack, New York. In 2016, his daughter Jo wrote and published his biography, My Father Wakes Up Laughing.
