Drummer Redd Holt and bassist Eldee Young were members of the Ramsey Lewis Trio from 1956 until 1965 when they recruited a pianist and formed the Young-Holt Trio. In 1968, they became Young-Holt Unlimited and had a #3 hit with Soulful Strut. They released 11 albums before disbanding in 1974.

Gene Vincent, born Vincent Eugene Craddock, formed the Blue Caps in 1955. Gene had served in the United States Navy and the band name was a reference to the caps worn by sailors. Gene and his band released seven albums and appeared in four movies. Among their hits are Be-Bop-A-Lula, Bluejean Bop, Dance To The Bop, Lotta Lovin' and Race With The Devil.
