2017-18 NBA season
The 2017-18 NBA season begins October 17 with the Cavaliers playing the Celtics at Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland. This thread is the place for basketball fans to post opinions and news about their favorite teams. I hope a lot of people participate. Otherwise, this thread ends up being my own personal blog instead of a discussion.

The latest odds from the Vegas Insider website have the Golden State Warriors, with 5-to-8 odds, as the favorite to win the 2018 NBA Championship. The Cleveland Cavaliers rank second with 7-to-2 odds and the Boston Celtics rank third with 8-to1 odds. My favorite team is the Clippers. Their odds to win the Championship are 125 to one. Considering that the Clippers have never gotten past the second round of the playoffs, their odds may as well be zero to one.

Select games are also carried on SiriusXM NBA Radio, which provides full-time NBA news, talk, analysis and call-in programs. Among the hosts are several former players and coaches, including Rick Mahorn, Eddie Johnson and Greg Anthony.

The Clippers, who have never gotten past the second round of the playoffs, are having another typical season: A good start followed by big losing streaks and several players injured. After winning their first four games, the Clippers are now 5-6. Austin Rivers, Patrick Beverley, Milos Teodosic and Danilo Gallinari are injured.
Lonzo Ball, the Lakers' 20-year-old rookie, had been hailed as "the next Kobe Bryant" but he's off to a slow start. In his first 12 games, he's shot only 22% from three-point range and 29.8% overall.

The Clippers lost again today. I like the Clippers but I don't really know why.

The 76ers just beat the Clippers, 109-105. It's their sixth consecutive loss. The Celtics have won 12 in a row. And could LeBron James wind up with the Knicks? That is the rumor:

Tonight the Cavaliers beat the Clippers in overtime. It's their seventh consecutive loss. Their longest losing streak was 20 games: four at the end of the 1993-94 season and 16 at the start of the 1994-95 season. The Clippers have also had two 19-game losing streaks and two 17-game losing streaks. Please, Clippers, try not to set a new record this season, okay?
-
Hornets 102, Clippers 87 -- and the losing streak is now eight games.......and counting.
-
Knicks 107, Clippers 85 -- and the losing streak is now nine games.......and counting.

Tonight the Clippers beat Atlanta, 116-103. They will not surpass their franchise-record 20-game losing streak. Not this year, at least.

NBA Championship odds: Each team's chances of making the playoffs
AOL Sports, Nov 28 2017 10:53 AM
The Boston Celtics may have won 16 straight games already this season, but they're nowhere near the favorites to win the 2017-18 NBA Championship. Three teams -- the Celtics, Houston Rockets and Golden State Warriors -- have more than a 99% chance to play in the postseason this year. Other near-guarantees include the San Antonio Spurs, Cleveland Cavaliers and Toronto Raptors. After those powerhouses, the odds of teams making the playoffs, let alone winning the title, start to drop off significantly. At this point in the season, only seven teams have even a 1% chance of raising a championship banner.

Blake Griffin has a strained knee and could be out for two months. He is the fourth Clippers starter to be injured this season. Patrick Beverley last week had season-ending knee surgery, Milos Teodosic will be out at least another month with a foot injury and Danilo Gallinari is out with a strained glute.
Cheer up, Chicago Bulls fans -- the Clippers, currently 8-11, now have a good chance to replace the Bulls as this season's worst team.
-
I like the Celtics. They are the best team right now and I think they will be in the finals with the Warriors. But they did not look good tonight. They lost to Chicago by 23 points and Chicago is the worst team right now.

Kevin Durant did something really nice after last night's game. He took off his sneakers and signed his name on them and gave them to a young boy. The boy was so happy, he cried. ESPN showed the video and I also found it on their website. It is at www.espn.com/video/clip?id=21744906

Everybody thought Lonzo Ball was going to be as good as Kobe Bryant but he been just average. The Lakers are 11-25 and are in last place and will probably miss the playoffs again.
-
The Lakers scored the first ten points tonight and that was a good start but Oklahoma City wound up beating them by 37 points. That is their biggest loss of this season and they are just getting deeper in last place.
-
The Lakers just lost to the Hornets. It is their ninth loss in a row. Lonzo Ball's father said today that Lonzo's two brothers will also be playing for the Lakers in two years. Maybe that will happen but I do not think it will.
