From January 2025 to January 2029, Vance – an isolationist, conspiracy-theory-spreading anti-vaxxer who recently referred to women without children as "childless cat ladies" – will be Vice President of the United States. He is already favored to win the Presidency in 2028. California Governor Gavin Newsom, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear and Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro are likely to seek their party's nomination.

Political commentator Ben Shapiro – no relation to Josh – said "nobody is talking about Harris running in 2028." He predicts Kamala Harris will quit politics and return to private life.

Beshear, a Democrat, has served as Governor of Kentucky since December 2019. He previously served four years as Attorney General of Kentucky. In an Emerson College poll released June 27, 16% of Democratic voters say they would vote for Pete Buttigieg for President in 2028, 13% would vote for Kamala Harris and 12% would vote for Gavin Newsom.
