Thanks for coming over to the political thread Siriusly long.
What a sense of humor you have!
Did you take a look at the latest polls on financial reform?
This past weekend I was thinking about this idea that our guns are going to be taken from us.
I own about a dozen guns. Shotguns, pistols, and rifles. Everytime that a
Democrat has taken office in my lifetime, I've heard that they wanted my guns. So far that hasn't happened. They have had majorities a few times just like now. And yet, not one of my guns has been taken away from me.
SL, could you please point me to a statement from Obama that leads you to think that he wants to take my legal guns away from me?
Sometimes, I think this anti gun rhetoric has just made the NRA stronger and brought much more money thier direction. Not a bad thing, but I just don't think there is a realistic threat here. At least not one that scares me.
Follow john and Big Ben too blindly and you might just find yourself headed for many years at the psychiatrists office. Narcissism is contagious you know. LOL.
Besides i no longer recognize that individual over here ever since he abandoned Siriusbuzz for KOAT and became a traitor to the cause of our Political thread. :D
Centrist?
Coulda fooled me!
Your comments re Pelosi and Obama suggests otherwise.
It depends on the issue. Gay marriage - who cares. Global warming - we should always be good stewards of the Earth, but no need for fear mongering either.
Candidly, I openly supported Obama. As noted, I was tired of the religous right and their influence on the republican party, and ready for a change. But I am in no way pleased with his efforts.
My cheif complaint is in this "bailout". I still believe tax cuts should have been involved and would have benefited individuals like me far better than the federal government simply writing checks and running up debt like crazy. Sure, "programs" could be created to benefit those who don't even pay a tax, but there is a large subset of middle class people who aren't benefitting at all. In fact, sometimes I feel like I'm subsidizing it.
At this point, I am alienated with both parties.
SL, this is a brilliant post. I think you may have summed it up for the majority of Americans.
The real problem is that we don't have many choices. The Far Right is very scary, just as scary as the Far Left.
Personally, I just want to go to work and be a good citizen. I don't mind paying taxes. But, I don't want government in my personal life.
I call myself a very Liberal Conservative. I have a lot of love for America. But, I just can't find people to vote for that I can agree with even 50% of the time.
Impeachment isn't the answer. I think a third party is. But, the Tea Party isn't it. They are just a branch of the Far Right Republican block. The Greens, Libertarians, and other small parties are just a small portion of the Democrats.
It's a serious problem for all of us.
Well then, what we have here is one brilliant post followed by another lol You and I are very similar. I've voted primarily Libertarian for the last couple years. Some say I'm throwing my vote away, and they do make a point. If they would let go their marijauna agenda, they may be taken more seriously. I think most of us classify ourselves as socially progressive and fiscally conservative. Although "socially progressive" will have a various amount of meaning.
Stop trying to bury my important threads with your obvious nonsense on Obama!
Were you for the health care bill? Are you for the financial reform bill? Do you support immigration reform? Do you favor a new energy bill which would help to pursue independence from foreign oil? Do you oppose ( Jeb Bush and Marc Rubio oppose it and you made opposition by Obama out to be almost unamerican) the immigration bill passed in Arizona? If you answer no to all those questions you are FAR from a centrist.
Since Obama campaigned on all these issues and you say you "openly supported Obama" you should be supporting them.
The bailout happened under Bush. You do understand that dont you?
Are you mixing this up with the stimulus package?
There were tax cuts involved in the stimulus package.
Do you understand that 95% of the middle class had their taxes go down this year?
Did you favor the Bush tax cuts that favor the top !% of Americans? Would you rather it expire next year and have more of that money go toward the middle class?
Did you yell about the large deficits under Bush.
Are you aware that almost all economists, both Conservative and Liberal agree that the best way to get out of a Recession is to spend money and not to do tax cuts?
Are you aware that Obama proposed a deficit panel that a number of Republicans had supported and helped draft and then voted against when it came up for a vote?
Are you aware that Obama has since appointed a deficit commission made up of Dems and Republicans and which has been given a mandate to propose solutions even if they are politically unpopular?
I could go on and on but i leave at that for now. Look forward to your answers.
To the brilliant amongst us...
One of the the things that must be learned to understand ANYTHING is the context in which it occurs. Depending on the issues involved, this can take a long time. No article, however extensive, no television program however "true" it sounds, no individual however passionate conveys "the whole truth". Further, tax cuts are NOT the solution to every economic problem that most think they are. Not to know this is a grievous error. There is ample evidence. Tax cuts are ruinous to governments, e.g, California. Without knowing the effects of propositions there over the last 30 years one knows nothing of the causes of their current problems. (this does not mean I am in favor of high taxes. But some would think that because they like quick solutions)
The expenditures made by our govt because of the meltdown were necessary because of the risks involved globally including job loss and the economic and social consequences of huge numbers out of work (there is a lot to know). Obama did cut taxes early in his term for the middle class. If one is feeling left out re taxes they should RIOT over the benefits Bush gave the top 5% during his administration AND DURING WAR. Few know this and fewer care.
Third parties are NOT the answer unless there is public financing of elections. Money and power corrupts EVERYONE! Any thorough analysis frequently requires a regression to the basic as my comment above indicates. People like simple, fast answers to complicated problems. They are ALWAYS wrong. But as one can see, for example, with tea partiers, few like to take the time or effort. (keep the govt out of my Medicare) People like their predjudices and ideologies unchallenged.
I have posted numerous articles on the curse of UNCONTROLLED capitalism. But on a financial site - f****** communist! Until we cleanse ourselves of the obscene theft that has turned this country into a race to see who can steal the most - and get away with it - and f*** everone in the lower 98%, nothing will change.
Oh, by the way, Obama has disappointed me in more than half of what he has done. Those that have called him a socialist are the stupidist of the stupid. He is so obviously in the pocket of the oligarchs it is frightening. But you have to read widely and deeply to know this. Accepting current "wisdom" will kill all your brain cells. There are some on this site that...
Regarding your comment re climate. The science has NOT changed even though some scientists are sloppy administrators or that some non-consequential data was in error. Read my posts OBJECTIVELY and don't focus on minutiae. The important stuff is still the same. And yes, we shouldn't panic but since we will all benefit if we continue to analyze carefully and proceed carefully, what's the problem????
Lloyd
Thanks for that. I could add many more as you could.
Hey, SL, Ever read ANY of my and Lloyd's posts? If you had read them we wouldn't have to do this. We could be having a beer together.
I type my fingers to the bone and what do I get...another day older and deeper in debt.
But I digress. Sorry.
Hey Chuck. There is no far left in this country. It's a useful myth promoted by the right - like most everything else they say.
By the way, Chuck doesn't post because he is too busy making money. That's why he is the wealthiest person here. Maybe I should stop posting and ...
Ralph, you're cracking me up here! :) I am far from wealthy. No flat screen TV, no cell phone, no ipod, no Sirius subscription, and on and on. But, I do spend my money on charity and politics....and a house at the beach where I live full time, so it's not a vacation home.
I try to be socially responsible by recycling, driving a car that pulls 36 or more mpg, keeping the house cool in the winter and warm in the summer and so on.
I think these things make me pretty average.
The story on the Obama years has yet to completely unfold yet. I think we wasted a lot of time on Health Care and didn't get too far. We're still in two sucky wars that we will never win. He wants to drill for oil off the coast of my home (I live very near the Virginia/North Carolina border). My Gay son still can't legally marry the person of his choice. Hatred is running wild in our country.
I'm not saying he's a bad President. But, the things that I had hoped for as far as change goes have not happened yet and they don't seem to be on his radar.
I actually believe that my taxes should be increased to cover the cost of those two wars. Defecit spending is wrong. It was wrong when Bush did it and it's wrong when Obama does it.
A third or forth party is a good idea. Public funding of elections is a good idea. But.....I still want to be able to spend my money on the candidate of my choice, and I don't want limits on how much I spend. This is America and that's my right!
Geezzz, I wish I was wealthy. I wouldn't have to spend my mornings checking out investing sites like this...LOL
SL, you have started a great thread here. Look how many views it has had. That just goes to show that people on this site do care about these things and truly have an interest in a topic like this.
And I have to add that's it's nice to be able to have this conversation without name calling or degrading each other because of differing opinions. Sometimes these conversations degenerate to schoolyard bullying. And that's the quickest way to end a meaningful sharing of ideas.
Thanks,
Chuck
Hey Candleman,
Read this for another point of view about what Obama has or hasnt accomplished. Curious to know what you think. i do agree with some of what you say.

Good morning Moneybags...I mean Chuck.
Thanks for your candid response but you left out the part about being one of Walmart's biggest suppliers and the property in Europe.
I agree, like Havakasha, with some of what you say.
There must be public financing of elections - spend your money somewhere else. Hey wait, I have an idea...I'll post it soon.
As for this thread; the title "Impeach...has drawn 150 views because of an inflammatory title. Maybe good, maybe dumb. We'll see.
What has to happen is that the lurkers engage which hasn't happened before.
While we wait go buy some more stock.
