The Heritage foundation which is a Conservative think tank has always opposed money for alternative energy.
They are an example of a blind adherence to ideology getting in the way of good sound policy. If you read James Woolsley's (the former head of the CIA) interview you will understand that there are ideological Conservatives who are honest about the changes that are needed in this countries energy policy.
Here it is for those that didnt read it in my other post.

Like to hear your opinion on these two articles specifically Just Sirius.
Lloyd
You cont to get me confused with someone else...have only minor problems with renewable energy!
remember...I live in San Antonio...we have been putting our money where our mouth is! We are the one of the largest buyers of wind energy in the country...We also are using a significant amount of solar energy where applicable and affordable! Affordable renewable energy is the problem!
This is taken from the governments 2007 Energy Information Administration
and posted in the San Antonio Express News
"estimated that in fiscal 2007, tax-payer subsidies for wind-generated electricity, including a production tax credit, equaled $23.37 per megawatt hour...compared to .68c for hydroelectric power and $1.59 for nuclear energy".
lloyd
Do the math...Wind energy takes a .234 cent subsidy for every Kw/H which is what most electric companies bill for. Compare that with hydroelectric at
.007 cents per Kw/hour and Nuclear energy at .016 cents per Kw/H. Like I have said...on numerous occasions...Wind energy is cost prohibitive! Another thing you fail to consider!
In Texas...in 2 different locations...residents have fought and won...stopping wind farms from being built in their area. they have used noise polution...habitat disruption...eyesore defense!
Why do you think T. Boone Pickens scrapped his gigantic wind farm plans for the plains of W. Texas...cost and litigation are a huge part of his reasons for scrapping the farm!
Lloyd
You have also forgotten that the wind does not blow 24/7 like left wing liberals. Wind generated power is unreliable! It can be at best 4th or 5th in line for producing energy! Absolutely not worth the hundreds of Billions being spent on it!
You can spend all of our money in China...when the wind stops blowing...the energy productions stops!
Lloyd
Solar...same as wind generated electricity...presently very cost prohibitive and unreliable. Will agree though that they are making pretty good strides with this one...Many...Many years away from being cost effective...
Also, same as wind generated energy...During lengthly periods of rain and heavy clouds...Solar is very ineffective!
Do you read?

Please educate yourself on this matter. And i mean that in the nicest way.
For the Love of God! As stated before...my wife works for one of the most progressive utility companys in the country...Her job is to analyze costs...such as solar, wind, nuclear, coal, gas etc!
Havakasha- let me spell it out for you...In San Antonio...we pay .09 cents per Kw/H plus about .04 cents per Kw/hour during peak energy usage. Wind generated energy would cost me at a minimum... .23+.09+.04= .36 per Kw/H...without govt subsidies...thats 64% higher than I pay now...and we use a combination of solar, wind, coal, nuclear!
If San Antonio dropped the wind generated energy and solar energy out of our costs and we went strictly with nuclear (which is 40% of our energy supply) and clean coal(yes clean coal...have 1 plant coming on line this year...and another next year...state of the art)my bill would drop to about .06+.04=.10 per Kw/H...which is 72% lower than wind alone!
Again, if Applied Matilerals wants to build several solar plants in the US...go right ahead! the only thing stopping them is that the other countries are footing the bill through substantial taxes and subsidies. They do not want to put their money where there mouth is! Why you ask...those damn corporate profits...so therefore...its ok for some companies to make a profit but not others(insurance and oil) to name a few! I applaud Toyota for spending 1B of their OWN money!
You want my honest opinion...we should be developing more nuclear plants! CPS energy is trying to partner with another company to build 2 more reactors at STNP. Would cost CPS an estimated 5.5-6B to build...but would provide a clean energy supply that would power San Antonio with about 60% nuclear energy...and cover our growing energy demands for the next 40-50 years!
So, before you come off as an asshole again...I think that you should become alittle more diverse in your reading...Try mixing in something from an unbiased source!
Lloyd- tell your minion...I have never been pissy with you...I try to not play it that way...I may mention left wing liberals...but thats about as far as it goes!
BTW- have you seen the latest rasmussen polls...falling like a rock...the people are speaking! Oh i forgot...the Liberal Congress no longer works for the people!
You never acknowledge all the many billions in subsidies that have gone to the coal, gas and oil industries. Play fair when it comes to helping Alternative energy.
We have never had a truly free market system. Sorry but its the truth.
You maybe right about the subsidies to the other industries...but what i dont understand is why the eco-nazi's have to cram everything down our throats...Hybrid technology...has come along way in the last 10 years...no problem...But is has been funded by private compaines with some very small subsidies...Toyota spending 1B of their own money...Love it! I am not against modest subsidies for renewalbe energy...but...a subsidy that is 33 times higher than one for hydroelectric and 15 times higher than nuclear!!! come on...you must see that wind generated energy is not cost effective! And do you really want 1000's of wind farms dotting the skyline!
Can you please stop using the word Nazi. My grandparents were murdered by the Nazi's and the idea that someone can use that name to describe anyone other than the original Nazi's is particularly disturbing to me and all who understand the real meaning of that word. if your that intellectually unable to have a discussion without stooping to such name calling why dont you just stop posting.
No one is cramming anything down anyone's throat. Anyone can buy any car they want and will ALWAYS continue to. We just want to change the environment for the better so all our children and grandchildren can breathe better air and have a country that is not bankrupted by energy prices and held hostage to Middle east oil. We are going to give you MORE choices in car buying and not less.
All industries have always been a combination of private business and public
policy. unfortunately you have bought into some talking points that do nothing to advance this important conversation and are in fact completely inaccurate.
Sorry about the nazi reference...but it was ok to call Bush a Nazi...But now...not OK...No problem! Will remove it from my posts!
Again...I call BS...With the new cafe standards that the eco-scumbags are cramming down our throat...Will either be next to impossibe to meet those standard with trucks/suv or they will all convert to hybrids...have you seen the cost of a Tahoe/Suburban hybrids...cost prohibitive! Happy now!
Country being BK by the liberals! Are you tired of being held hostage by the middle east...Drill here! You liberals are so hypocrital...Refuse to allow drilling here offshore...claim to want clean air for our grandchildren! But it is ok to give 200M or 200B to Brazil for them to drill offshore. Guess their kids and grandkids are not worth saving! Hypocrits...can I say that word!
We are dependent on foreign oil...We can reduce it by drilling here! And by using our Middle East like monoply on Natural Gas...we can again have affordable energy!
And yes hybrids, EV and such will help also to reduce our dependence on the Middle East!
Wind and solar will also help...but are and will cont to be cost prohibitive/unreliable for years to come! So let's all suffer for another 20 years of getting screwed by the middle east!
Real Unemployement- over 10% you want more jobs...put the oil industry back to work!
BTW- where was the outrage when Pelosi and the other band of scumbags were calling Bush every name in the book! Granted...he screwed up 2nd term...no question...but to call him some of the stuff that the LIBERAL SENATORS called him...totally unrehensible! Senator Wilson got raked over the coals and sent too timeout by the Liberals...FOR TELLING THE TRUTH!
F%%%ing hypocrits!
BTW- check out the latest Rasmussen poll! In three key Senate races...Liberals getting killed! For the sake of our country...I hope it cont!
Thank God, that I live in Texas and don't have to listen to their BS!
The MSM has admitted that their job is NOT to expose lies by either side; their job (as they see it) is merely to say "he said. she said". That does not provide useful information and abdicates the responsibility that the media has always practiced. They are lazy and uneducated in many issues and afraid of losing ad dollars.
Bush started a war based on lies to excuse his behavior. Using your logic it would be okay to say, Bush lied, bur all politicians lie so it is equal. BULLSHIT.
There are differences and you know it.
No. it was not ok to call Bush a Nazi. When did i ever say it was? Glad you will stop and i call on everyone else to stop as well no matter what political party you are from.
So having higher Mpg for cars is cramming something down your throat?
Then cram away. Ridiculous. you are sounding like a real whiner over this matter. You should be thankful for the changes that will be coming to cars in the near and distant.future. Lets wait 10 or 20 years and beyond and see if your kids and grandchildren are complaining. And i for one am damn proud of what our govt is trying to do.
So your solution for our complex economic problems is to put the oil industry back to work? Thank god you are not running this country. Why dont you ask them why they arent drilling in all the land they presently have available to drill on. They will you tell you it aint worth it to them.
So...in your words...The MSM are lazy and uneducated in many issues and afraid of losing ad dollars! If they are uneducated and lazy...get them the F off of my television. they have no business discussing politics! NBC, MSNBC, CBS, ABC. What about MSNBC getting caught red handed editing video and lying to our faces! The "WHITE GUN TOTING" when it was a African-American. They edited the tape, lied during the broadcast, and lied again saying that the reporter wasn't talking about that guy! BS When you lie, you should lose ad revenue...you should lose your job!
NBC- Immelt in Obamas back pocket!
MSNBC- lying DBags!!!
CBS- Remember Dan the big fat lier Rather
ABC- probably the fairest of the 3 network media giants!
FOX- kicking their asses while at least putting out varying opinions! i admit Hannity/Beck are over the top...Otherwise fairly even...IMHO
Yesterday...you asked me if I could read! It is obvious from what you just posted from my last post...You cannot!
I said...Ok with hybrids/EV...also said OK with Solar/Wind...somehow...you conviently missed those...Selective just as Lloyd is!
And Yes...put the oil industry back to work...Will helpto free our independence from the Middle East!
I understand that you unlike John give some support to alternative energy as an important part of our future. However, you seem to have this deep seated ideological hatred of everything to do with the Govt only as it relates to the alternative energy business. Our Govt has been supporting the gas, coal, and oil industries with billions in subsidies and tax breaks for decades ( which continue today). I dont see your outrage in that case which leaves you open to the charge of being a hypocrite.
The oil companies dont need more billions of dollars of help. They are working today and making record profits. They can drill in multiple places that they choose not to. God how i wish we could set up two parallel universes so we could test our alternative theories. I feel quite confident of the results.
