Waylon Jennings' version, retitled I'm A Ramblin' Man, went to number one in 1974. Pennington recorded seven albums as a member of the Swing Shift Band, a group he co-founded in 1984 with steel guitarist Buddy Emmons and fiddle player Johnny Gimble.
