"We spent way too much time on our side talking about" Trump in 2016, Pete Buttigieg told an interviewer. "Our whole message was don't vote for him because he is terrible. And even because he is, that is not a message." Let's hope Democrats don't make the same mistake in 2020.

Memo to political reporters: Please stop using the word "takeaway" and stop saying "at the end of the day." Thank you. According to the latest polls from Fox News and Morning Consult, Booker is favored by only 4% of Democratic voters. An earlier CNN poll had him at 3%. Does he have reason to be optimistic about his chances? Not right now -- but the election is still 20 months away.
Six takeaways from Cory Booker's CNN town hall
Booker brought his trademark optimism to the national stage, insisting to voters that he can defeat Trump in 2020 without adopting the Republican's tactics.

In 1812, New York City Mayor DeWitt Clinton became the first sitting mayor to receive a major-party nomination for President. (He wound up losing to incumbent James Madison.) Messam would like to become the second. He also would like to win the Powerball jackpot, visit Mars, bring about world peace and start a unicorn ranch.

O'Rourke was born in El Paso and served on the City Council from 2005 to 2011. Today in El Paso, he officially began his Presidential campaign. He praised immigrants, declared that we should all be "Americans first," railed against our nation's "unprecedented concentration of wealth and power" and vowed to build the largest grassroots campaign in history. I believe he will.

Trump vowed to cut prescription drug prices and still has not done so. Bernie is now promising to cut drug prices by 50%. Easier said than done. Bernie also declared, "If Trump gets his way, the cost of health insurance will be so high that many people literally will not be able to afford it. Thousands of people will literally die. That's Trump's health insurance plan. My plan's just a little bit different. I think we should join the rest of the industrialized world and guarantee health care to all people as a right."

An unwanted kiss from Biden pales in comparison to Trump's sexual abuse of women, his insults of women, his extramarital affairs, his hush-money payments and his bragging about being able to grab women by the pussy. I don't understand why any woman would support Trump.

Biden calls himself a "tactile politician." What a quaint euphemism for creepy behavior. Nancy Pelosi gave him this advice: "Join the straight-arm club. Pretend that you have a cold and I have a cold." In other words, keep everyone at arm's length. And Biden still has not announced his intention to run for President.

Los Angeles Times political columnist Doyle McManus says Biden may indeed be able to defeat Trump -- but Biden must first make a convincing apology for his "creepy uncle" behavior and explain his changing views on crime, abortion and race relations before he can "start on that vision for the future."

In a video posted to his Twitter account, Biden said, "Social norms have begun to change. They’ve shifted and the boundaries of protecting personal space have been reset and I get it. I will be more mindful and respectful of people's personal space." However, he did not apologize for the "touchy-feely" behavior that has made some women uncomfortable. He needs to.

All it took was one woman, Lucy Flores, saying Joe Biden gave her an "awkward kiss" and now other women are coming forward with tales of being made uncomfortable by Biden's physical contact. KFI talk show host Gary Hoffmann said today he doesn't understand why these women didn't say anything to Biden about his behavior at the time but they're complaining now. Hoffmann also said Biden grew up in an era when it was normal and acceptable for a man to touch a woman's hand or shoulder or give her a kiss on the cheek. Women today, Hoffmann lamented, are going to an extreme and insisting all physical contact outside of marriage is wrong. Oh no, woe is Joe!

Thirteen women accused Donald Trump of sexual improprieties. He said he would present evidence "at the appropriate time" to prove every one of those women is lying. He never did so. Trump also made hush-money payments to buy the silence of a porn-star with whom he had an extramarital affair. Trump has no right to mock another man for giving a few unwanted touches and kisses -- but as we all know, Trump has never met a man he couldn't mock, criticize, slander or belittle.
