If we – meaning the entire world – can't reduce greenhouse gas emissions, brace yourself for extreme droughts, more wildfires, flooding, food shortages and more heat-related illnesses and deaths.

"Some say the world will end in fire, some say in ice," wrote Robert Frost in 1920. Nearly a century later, it appears the world will end in carbon dioxide emissions and global warming unless emissions can be drastically reduced – and we don't have much time left.

Today, Paris had a high of 108.7°, Germany reached 106.7°, Belgium recorded 103.8° and the Netherlands had a high of 107.1°. All of those are record highs. In England, the temperature reached 100.6°, the second-highest temperature ever recorded and a record for the month of July.

Globally, last month was the hottest June ever recorded. This month will be the hottest July on record. Would anyone care to make predictions for August and September? This is from Business Insider:
At least 20 people have died from Europe's extreme heat. The Arctic caught on fire. This is what climate change looks like.

Final data will be released in four days. The four hottest years on record are 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018. This year is likely to be the second-hottest year on record, which will mean the five hottest years have been the last five years. Alaska had 95 consecutive days of above average temperatures this year (April 26 to July 29). July was Alaska's hottest month on record. Almost every major city had record high temperatures. On July 4, Anchorage had a high of 90°. The expanse of ice in Alaska in July was the smallest on record. The water in Alaska's streams and rivers has also reached record high temperatures, in the low 80s. Excessive heat worldwide is killing people, fish and animals. At least insects are still thriving.

One of the issues discussed during this past weekend's G-6 summit was climate change. It should have been a G-7 discussion but Trump chose to be absent. Donald Trump loves money almost as much as he loves Donad Trump and he's not about to let the United States spend any money to combat climate change. And anyway, Trump knows climate change is a hoax, no matter how many thousands of scientific studies say otherwise, no matter how many hundreds of people die from excessive heat, no matter how many glaciers and icebergs melt and no matter how many thousands of high-temperature records have been set in the last decade. Wecome to Trumpworld.

The greenhouse gas that contributes most to global warming is carbon dioxide. Methane is a close second. We have a President who believes global warming is a "hoax" – so why should he care about greenhouse gas emissions?

The five hottest years ever recorded are 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019. Arctic sea ice is melting, Antarctic sea ice is melting, ocean temperatures are rising – and the number of global-warming deniers is shrinking.
Sea levels are projected to rise 3 feet within 80 years, according to a new UN report. Hundreds of millions of people could be displaced.

"Look, I don't care about all the thousands of scientific studies showing earth's temperatures are steadily increasing, okay? Melting glaciers, rising sea levels, droughts, wildfires – those things are all hoaxes, okay? They're not happening. How many nations do we have in the world? Two hundred? Three hundred? Over the next 80 years, melting sea ice and steadily warming ocean temperatures could cause sea levels to rise by 12 feet. Many coastal cities worldwide will be permanently flooded. Donald Trump's great-grandchildren will get to their jobs by swimming or canoeing and, just as Trump does now, they'll probably continue to insist climate change is a hoax.

Greenhouse gas emissions continue to rise by around 1.5% per year. The worst polluters are the United States and China. Unless emissions can be reduced dramatically worldwide, we will have stronger storms, longer heat waves, severe droughts, rising seas and diminished food supplies – and our President takes no action because he believes global warming is a "hoax." Wow. (See also: "Russia hoax" and "impeachment hoax.")
