There are 11 Disney theme parks in the United States, Europe and Asia. All are now closed because of the coronavirus. On the brighter side, there is no longer a 90-minute wait for Splash Mountain, The Haunted Mansion or Pirates Of The Caribbean.

Letter from Gary Vogt of Menifee in today's Los Angeles Times:
"When addressing the nation at a time of crisis, American Presidents have historically risen to the occasion and projected to the people a sense of preparedness, decisiveness, resolve and empathy. Think of Lincoln at Gettysburg, Roosevelt after Pearl Harbor and Bush after 9/11. Trump's speech to the nation, on the other hand, reminded me of a hostage being forced to read a script. This is a man who seems incapable of feeling empathy and cannot understand and appreciate the fears and concerns, both medically and economically, of most Americans concerning the coronavirus. Trump views everything through the lens of how it affects him and who he can blame if anything goes wrong. A wise person once said, 'Crisis doesn't change people; it reveals them.'"

Worldwide, 145,634 people have been infected with COVID-19 and 5,436 have died. The death toll is 3,189 in China, 1,266 in Italy, 514 in Iran, 133 in Spain, 79 in France and 50 in the United States. Schools are closing, sporting events are canceled, thousands of people are now working online and millions are no longer going out to shop or eat. At least the freeways are no longer congested.

Dr. Brian Monahan, the attending physician of Congress and the Supreme Court, anticipates that as many as 150 million Americans will become infected by COVID-19. Marc Lipsitch, professor of epidemiology at Harvard, thinks the virus could infect as much as 70% of the world's population and 1% of those will die. Thank you, gentlemen, for those reassuring predictions. I feel better now.

Are such drastic measures really necessary? People might be safer but now many will have no job and no income and they could wind up getting evicted or starving to death. ¡Las cosas se están volviendo locas!

Maria Cardona, a contributor to CNN, The Hill, RealClearPolitics, US News & World Report and other news outlets, says a President should offer "encouragement, empathy, leadership, the truth and solutions" in times of crisis. Trump's response to the coronavirus pandemic provided none of that. Instead, we got "irresponsible sugar-coating, political blaming, grandstanding and a botched Oval Office address that was remarkable for its lack of solutions, its xenophobic undertones and its outright untruths." I doubt any of us expected anything else from the pompous, egotistical, narcissistic, self-serving, self-worshipping, orange-skinned buffoon who thinks everything is about him.

Appearing today on CNN's State Of The Union, Fauci said he would "like to see a dramatic diminution of the personal interaction that we see" in bars and restaurants. In other words, there may be a temporary national lockdown of those businesses. Is the entire world going to shut down?

The global death toll from the COVID-19 virus just reached 6,500. That includes 3,199 in China, 1,809 in Italy, 724 in Iran, 292 in Spain, 127 in France and 68 in the United States. And I can answer the question I asked above: It appears most of the world is shutting down.

New York City's public school system serves 1,100,000 students and is the largest in the country. All its schools are now closed until April 20. Schools on Long Island and in Westchester County are also closing. And I wonder how the CDC was able to determine that COVID-19 could be transmitted among a group of 50 people but not among a group of 49 people.
