MyPillow chief executive Mike Lindell must face a defamation lawsuit brought by a voting machine company that the Trump ally falsely accused of rigging the 2020 US election, a Minnesota federal judge ruled today. Judge Wilhelmina Wright denied Lindell and MyPillow's motion to dismiss the lawsuit by Smartmatic USA, finding ample evidence that Lindell ignored publicly available information that contradicted his theories. Judge Wright also found sufficient evidence that Lindell knew or should have known his statements were false and acted with "actual malice" in promoting them, a key legal threshold in defamation cases.
Smartmatic and competitor Dominion Voting Systems have filed similar lawsuits against Trump allies and media outlets that spread the rigging claims, including Fox and Newsmax.

When Georgia voters return an absentee ballot, they have to sign an oath on an outer envelope. Election workers have to ensure the signature matches the one on the absentee ballot application and the one in the voter registration system. In a November 2020 phone call with Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger, Lindsey Graham suggested that legally cast ballots with non-matching signatures should be thrown out. Of course he now denies saying that. He has to lie to protect Donald Trump – and himself.

Meadows served as Trump's chief of staff from March 31, 2020 to January 20, 2021. On December 14, 2021, Meadows was held in criminal contempt of Congress for refusing to cooperate with the January 6 select committee but the Department of Justice declined to prosecute him. Today he was not so lucky.

The South Carolina Supreme Court today said former White House chief of staff Mark Meadows must testify before a special grand jury that’s investigating whether then-President Donald Trump and his allies illegally tried to influence the 2020 election in Georgia. The state high court affirmed a lower court ruling last month ordering Meadows to appear before the panel. The former Republican congressman is the latest Trump associate to lose a legal fight over a summons to testify. The justices reviewed Meadows’ arguments and found them to be "manifestly without merit."

Fulton County Superior Court Judge Robert McBurney today ordered the partial release later this week of a report by a special grand jury that investigated efforts by former President Donald Trump and his allies to overturn his 2020 election loss. The report’s introduction and conclusion, as well as a section in which the grand jurors expressed concerns that some witnesses may have lied under oath, will be released on Thursday. Any recommendations on who should or should not be prosecuted will remain secret for now to protect their due process rights, McBurney wrote.
