I will never understand why so many millions of evangelical Christians continue to support Donald Trump, a vain, pompous, narcissistic, egotistical, lewd, crude, lying, cheating, crooked, corrupt, dishonest, immoral, unethical, self-serving buffoon who denigrates women, blacks, Mexicans, Muslims, immigrants, Democrats, judges and war heroes and who has brought shame, disgrace and dishonor to the office of the Presidency – but the proverbial tide may finally be starting to turn. A Christianity Today editorial calls Trump "morally lost" and notes the "moral and political danger" resulting from Trump's leadership. My response to Christianity Today: What took you so long? And what leadership?

Emperor Trump went on another Twitter tirade today. How dare the editor of an evangelical magazine not worship him the way Trump worships himself! The Emperor said the magazine is "doing poorly" – like the "failing" New York Times, right, Donald? – and accused them of wanting a "radical left nonbeliever" President who will "take away your religion and your guns." Emperor Trump grows more deranged, more demented, more delusional and more dangerous by the day.

Coming to you direct from Trumpworld, the topsy-turvy land of delusions where bad is good, wrong is right and lies are truth, here is today's Quote Of The Day from King Donald the First:
"I don't feel like I'm being impeached, because it's a hoax."
Wow.
Congressional Republicans no longer care about the Constitution, the Bill of Rights, the rule of law, the Presidential oath of office, national security, our system of checks and balances or the integrity of our elections. All they care about is Donald Trump and their party (which is no longer the Republican Party but rather the Donald Trump Party). By selling their souls to Donald Trump, they have ensured that he will remain above the law. Emperor Trump, also known as King Donald the First, knows he is free to abuse his power without any fear of Congressional oversight or sanctions. AS CNN senior political analyst Ronald Brownstein writes, it's starting to look as though Trump was correct when he declared Article II of the Constitution means "I have the right to do whatever I want as President." God help us.

A majority of evangelical Christians inexplicably support Donald Trump, who might be the most ungodly, unethical, immoral, dishonest, crooked, corrupt, self-serving person in our nation's history. Jay Parini – a poet, author, biographer, political commentator and Middlebury College professor of English and creative writing – believes Trump's support from younger evangelicals is starting to erode. Good! That couldn't happen to a more deserving person than Trump!

New York Times political writers Jonathan Martin analyze Donald Trump's "iron grip" on the Republican party. Of course it was very easy for Trump to achieve an "iron grip" because Republicans care only about Trump and their party and do not care about the United States of America, the Constitution, the Bill of Rights or the rule of law. They have willingly made Trump their god, their idol and their object of worship. God help us.
Fear and loyalty: How Donald Trump took over the Republican party
The President demands comlete fealty and, as the impeachment hearings showed, he has largely attained it. To cross him is to risk a future in the Republican party.

Newly released emails provide more details of Trump's withholding of Congressionally-approved military aid from Ukraine as a means of pressuring Ukraine to dig up dirt on Joe Biden. Emperor Trump abused his power by using United States assets for his own political gain and by seeking election interference from a foreign country but Congressional Republicans don't care. They have sold their souls to Donald Trump and they worship him as their god. Anyone care for some cyanide-laced grape Flavor Aid?

Not a large majority but a majority nonetheless. What is telling is that 85% of Democrats support impeachment but only 16% of Republicans – and among Republicans in Congress, support for impeachment is zero. They have sold their souls to the orange-skinned leader of the Cult of Donald Trump.

"To dream the impossible dream......." However, Flake is correct in saying Senate Republicans, not just Trump, are on trial. If, as expected, every one of them votes for acquittal, they will be showing us that the Constitution and the rule of law are unimportant to them. They will be showing Emperor Trump that he is indeed above the law and will never face Congressional oversight. They will be hastening the transformation of our nation from a republic to a monarchy. Three hundred sixteen days till Election Day.
