We now know who funded the phony "audit" in Arizona. Most of the $5,700,000 in donations came from Trump supporters. Patrick Byrne, a former Overstock CEO who believes the 2020 election was "rigged," gave $3,250,000. Michael Flynn, a Trump ally and QAnon follower, gave $976,512. Trump attorney Sidney Powell, who filed several lawsuits seeking to overturn the election results, gave $550,000. A reporter for the pro-Trump One America News Network gave $605,000. They wasted their money. Joe Biden is still the President – and Donald Trump is still a loser.

This staggering trend of attacks against US democracy is being exacerbated by GOP efforts in the states to restrict voting by minorities and Democrats and to make it easier to overturn future election results. Trump was unable to flout the will of voters in 2020. Some election experts fear that he – or another like-minded Republican strongman – could succeed in the future.

And ultimately, the flood of shocking new disclosures means that a potential new White House campaign by Trump in 2024 would come with the most grave implications for American democracy in decades. Given Trump's record of impunity, a new administration could be stocked with loyalists who would not balk at abuses of power. Trump appears to be at least preparing the groundwork for a future Presidential campaign. The Arizona Senate is continuing its fight to keep secret nearly 3,000 emails and text messages sent by lawmakers and others that relate to the Maricopa County election audit, their lawyer told a judge Wednesday. The Senate turned over thousands of pages of communications on Tuesday after ordered to do so by two judges. But the Senate also provided a log of approximately 2,900 messages that were withheld or redacted because the Senate does not believe turning them over is required under the state Public Records Law. Among those are most, if not all, of the communications between lawmakers who ordered the unprecedented election audit and Cyber Ninjas, the Florida company hired to conduct the audit.

Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers today blasted a Republican-ordered investigation into the 2020 Presidential election as a “$700,000 boondoggle." After an election audit in Arizona confirmed President Joe Biden's win in the state, Republicans have focused their attention on Wisconsin, where Biden also won, and other states where they're pursuing reviews of last year's election.

The investigation in Wisconsin is being led by retired conservative state Supreme Court Justice Michael Gableman. He said the burden will be on local election clerks to prove the election was run fairly. He also threatened to subpoena anyone who doesn't comply. “You don’t have to prove a negative in court. You don’t have to prove a negative in any other place except Justice Gableman’s court here," Evers said. “I hate to see an inquisition like this, especially when we're being told we have to prove it was a good election.
