After saying he would be "proud" to shut down the government, Donald Trump shut down the government and immediately starting blaming Democrats, even though he had said he would not blame Democrats. In a recent Reuters/Ipsos poll, 47% blamed Trump for the shutdown and 33% blamed Congressional Democrats. The ones who blame Democrats might want to reconsider:

Because of our childish President's government shutdown, border patrol agents are working without pay, asylum hearings are being postponed or canceled and E-Verify has been halted. Trump keeps demanding a wall. I suggest we build two walls: one encircling the White House and one encircling Trump Tower.

The shutdown over Trump's border wall has also shut down the E-Verify program employers use to check whether immigrants are in the US legally

Donald Trump's partial shutdown of government has entered its 14th day -- and now he wants to call it a "strike." No, Donald, federal workers are not on strike. You shut down the government. And your lengthy profanity-filled tirade is further proof -- as if any was needed -- that you are a disgrace to the office of President.

Trump told lawmakers he prefers the word 'strike' to 'shutdown'
 CNN, Jan 5 2019 12:58 AM ET

President Donald Trump told Congressional leaders during a meeting Friday to try to negotiate terms to re-open the government and said he preferred the word "strike" in describing the ongoing government shutdown, a person familiar with the meeting and a Democratic aide told CNN.

Trump kicked off the meeting with a profanity-laden opening salvo lasting more than 15 minutes in which he made it clear that he had no plans to move on from his demand for $5.6 billion to build a border wall, according to a person familiar with the meeting. Trump made clear that it didn't matter how long it would take -- months, years, "even to the election."

Amidst all the insanity, Trump showed a tiny bit of sanity. He foresaw the political repercussions that would result if those $10,000 raises took effect while 800,000 federal employees are furloughed or working without pay.

I have no idea why anyone would name her son "Shermichael" but that's not important right now. This strategist predicts many more Republicans will follow the lead of Senators Susan Collins and Cory Bergman, who believe keeping our federal government open is more important than a stupid, expensive wall (which Trump said Mexico would pay for).

GOP strategist explains why Republicans will soon turn on Trump in wall fight
Raw Story, Jan 5 2019 5:31 PM ET

President Donald Trump cannot win his standoff over the border wall because Democrats have no incentive to work with him on the unpopular proposal, Republican operative Shermichael Singleton said today on MSNBC. When Trump preemptively took responsibility for the shutdown, he "made his bed," Singleton said, adding, "Every single legitimate poll that I've looked at has said that the American people do indeed blame Donald Trump and the Republican Party."

Singleton said that as a Christian conservative he is offended by Trump's callous attitude toward people affected economically by his shutdown. "That does not benefit anyone, particularly many of the people who voted for Donald Trump himself, so I’m not certain how long he can continue to hold out," he said. "Democrats have no mandate whatsoever to work with him at all on this." Singleton said Trump's own party will eventually turn on him: "We are going to see more Republicans in the Senate say, 'You know what, I have an election coming up. I cannot risk continuing to support this. We need to make a compromise and re-open the government.'"

CNN's Ana Cabrera today showed six clips of Donald Trump bragging about being a "great negotiator" and declaring, "I make deals. That's what I do." She said if Trump carries out his threat to bypass Congress by declaring a "national emergency" so he can get -- he thinks -- money for a border wall, he will have failed as a negotiator and deal maker. Cabrera also noted 9/11 and Hurricane Katrina were national emergencies; illegal immigration is not.

Trump, who said he will keep government shut down until he gets billions of dollars from US taxpayers for his wall (which a majority of Americans do not want), told FOX News he can "relate" to the federal workers who are not getting paid. Really? He gave no evidence for his claim. He also said, "Many of those people that won't be receiving a paycheck agree 100% with what I'm doing." He gave no evidence for his claim.

And Sarah Sanders, Donald Trump's puppet, told FOX News that 4,000 terrorists have entered the United States, the majority from Mexico. She gave no evidence for her claim.

The lies and fear-mongering coming from the Trump White House continue unabated.

The exodus continues. Trump doesn't need a wall to keep immigrants out; he needs a wall to keep the members of his Cabinet and his administration from leaving.

"Fake news!" "Totally dishonest media!" "Knowingly lie!" "Stories that are total fiction!" "The opposition party!" "The enemy of the peoplel" "Crazed lunatics who have given up on the truth!" These vicious attacks on the press were not uttered by Mao, Tito, Hitler, Stalin, Lenin, Hussein, Mussolini, Pol Pot or Ho Chi Minh. No, they were all tweeted today by the President of the United States of America, the pompous, narcissistic, egotistical, dishonest, whiny, thin-skinned buffoon who is a disgrace to the office.

Disputing Trump's claim that we have a "national emergency," CNN national security analyst Peter Bergen notes that terrorists don't come to the US from Mexico because "they are already in the country. Of the 455 jihadist terrorism cases since 9/11, 84% involved US citizens or permanent residents, and every lethal terrorist attack in the United States since 9/11 was carried out by a US citizen or legal resident." And how many terrorists have been arrested at our southern border since 9/11? None. There ya go!

A border wall would do nothing to stop terrorism -- and there is no national emergency
