When Donald Trump says he supports "law and order," he's lying. He thrives on lawlessness and disorder because he thinks it boosts has re-election chances. Remember when he praised white nationalists and neo-Nazis in Charlottesville as "very fine people"? And just last week he praised a white St. Louis couple who pulled guns on Black Lives Matter protesters. In three and a half years, our racist, bigoted, fear-mongering President has succeeded in his campaign to Make America Hate Again.
Opinion: Trump's depraved plan to try to win reelection
CNN, Aug 31 2020 10:12 PM ET
President Donald Trump is right in believing most Americans don't want violence in their streets. But it's America's profound tragedy and grave danger that he, Trump, seems to want more of it. That Trump wants chaos and mayhem is not a secret. It has been confirmed repeatedly by his team. In one of her last Fox News appearances, his now-former strategist Kellyanne Conway confirmed what we all knew: "The more chaos, anarchy and vandalism reigns, the better it is for the very clear choice on who's best on public safety and law and order," she said. Lara Trump, daughter-in-law and campaign adviser, later told Fox that the violence is bringing voters to Trump. His Democratic rival, former Vice President Joe Biden, pushed back today, calling Trump a "toxic presence."
Trump is trying to blame the Democrats as he stokes chaos. That is why he is insisting on going to Kenosha where an apparent supporter faces homicide charges for the killing of anti-racism protesters. Democratic Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers is pleading with the President to stay away because he knows Trump's presence there can be explosive. The visit and idea that Trump is better for public safety is all a sham, of course, for many reasons. First, Trump is not better on law and order. Consider how many of his associates have been indicted and convicted. When it comes to street violence, this is occurring on his watch. The President who vowed "American carnage" was stopping with his inauguration, has ushered in and stoked violence and divisions.
This is Trump's America. He owns the violence. It is Trump and his supporters who bear much of the responsibility for turning mostly peaceful anti-racism protests into battlegrounds. And the strife is not just continuing, it is intensifying, becoming bloodier, deadlier and riskier for the nation. Unethical campaign strategies are nothing new. But this is certainly one of the most depraved, most dangerous electoral strategies in memory. This is not what most Americans want. It's not what most Republicans or Democrats want. It's what Trump, running out of arguments for reelection, has deliberately created.

As election looms, Russian trolls are targeting Americans again, Facebook says
CNN, Sep 1 2020 2:04 PM ET
People associated with the infamous St. Petersburg troll group that was part of Russia's attempt to interfere in the 2016 US presidential election are trying to target Americans again, Facebook announced today after receiving a tip from the FBI. The disrupted operation used fake personas including realistic-looking computer-generated photos of people, a network of Facebook accounts and pages that had only a small amount of engagement and influence at the time it was taken down, and a website that was set up to look and operate like a left-wing news outlet.
This is the first publicly available evidence that people connected to the Russian troll group, which is known as the Internet Research Agency, is using unwitting Americans in an attempt to meddle with the 2020 election and stir discord. The operation seems to have been shut down before it could get much traction on Facebook or the rest of the internet.

The USC Dornsife Daybreak poll tracks the views of a panel of more than 8,000 eligible voters. Each person is polled every 14 days. The poll now shows Biden leading Trump 53% to 41%.
Trump has slipped among key groups that backed him in 2016
Los Angeles Times, Sep 1 2020 3:00 AM
President Trump's support has eroded among key groups of voters who backed him in 2016 – a major reason why he continues to trail former Vice President Joe Biden and a prime motivator for the President's reelection strategy of emphasizing violent disorder in the nation's cities. Trump's decline among parts of his 2016 base is a chief finding from the USC Dornsife Daybreak Poll, which tracked voter preferences daily four years ago and is doing so again this year. Overall, Trump has lost support from about 9% of voters who backed him in 2016.
Several groups have moved away from Trump. Among people of color who cast ballots for Trump in 2016, nearly one in five now say they back Biden, the poll found. Among Latinos, about one in four say they will vote for Trump this year, down from more than three in 10 last time. Among voters who live in rural areas – Trump's stronghold – his vote among men has remained stable but has slipped by around 10 points among women.
Trump still has a large advantage among white voters without college degrees – his core group of supporters – but his lead has shrunk. In 2016, the poll found Trump leading among that group by roughly 40 percentage points. Now it's about 25 points. Among whites with college degrees, meanwhile, Biden has established a significant lead. In 2016, the poll found Trump and Clinton virtually even among whites with college degrees. This year, Biden leads, 54% to 41%.

Eighty-one Nobel prize winners are endosrsing Joe Biden for his "willingness to listen to experts" and for "his deep appreciation for using science to find solutions to America's ailments." Vain, pompous, egotistical, narcissistic, delusional, self-centered, self-worshiping Donald Trump believes there is only one expert – himself. He considers himself an expert on everything, including ISIS, NATO, law, medicine, business, science, finance, politics, defense, trade, climate change and the economy.

Intelligence bulletin warns Russia amplifying false claims
mail-in voting will lead to widespread fraud
CNN, Sep 3 2020 5:59 PM ET
An intelligence bulletin issued by the Department of Homeland Security warns that Russia is attempting to sow doubt about the integrity of the 2020 elections by amplifying false claims related to mail-in voting resulting in widespread fraud, assertions that have been repeatedly pushed by President Donald Trump, according to a Congressional source with direct knowledge of the document who confirmed its veracity.
"We assess that Russia is likely to continue amplifying criticisms of vote-by-mail and shifting voting processes amidst the COVID-19 pandemic to undermine public trust in the electoral process," the bulletin reads. The warning comes one day after Attorney General Bill Barr condemned states for encouraging mail-in voting in an interview with CNN's Wolf Blitzer. Barr also downplayed Russia's well-documented attempts to help Trump in Presidential elections, including in this election cycle.

At his rallies, Donald Trump loves to brag about all the jobs he's created. Yes, he thinks he creates jobs all by himself. Funny thing, though – he never says a word about all the many millions of job losses, nor does he mention all the retail chains filing for bankruptcy and laying off thousands of workers. Let's lay Trump's delusions aside and look at the facts:

Remember when Donald Trump vowed to start acting "more Presidential"? We're still waiting. Last week The Atlantic reported that Trump said Americans who died in war are "losers" and "suckers" and he asked that wounded veterans be kept out of military parades. Trump, of course, denies saying those things but they've been confirmed by several sources as well as by CNN, Fox News, The Associated Press, the Washington Post and the New York Times. How a 'blue shift' in mail ballots might set off election week chaos
Reuters, Sep 8 2020
When polls closed in Arizona's Senate race in November 2018, initial results from in-person voting showed Republican Martha McSally in the lead. Her advantage evaporated in the days that followed with the tallying of postal ballots. "Electoral corruption - call for a new election?" President Donald Trump posted on Twitter at the time. His suggestion had no effect, and McSally conceded to Democrat Kyrsten Sinema six days after election day.
A similar "blue shift," with blue representing Democrats, could play out in the November 3 Presidential election, with the Republican Trump ahead in early returns and Democrat Joe Biden emerging as the winner in the days that follow. Nearly half of Democrats say they plan to vote by mail, while only one quarter of Republicans plan to do so. Demand is driven in no small part by fear of infection from the coronavirus in public. Counting mail ballots is often slower because officials must open thick envelopes, verify the ballots and validate voters' identities, compared with the simpler, speedier process at a polling center where voters cast ballots in person.
Biden's campaign is bracing for Trump to complain the contest is being stolen as the lead shifts, say people close to the Biden campaign. Even some Republicans worry that Trump might exploit the uncertainty to cast doubt on the results if he ends up losing. "The longer it takes to count absentee ballots, the more the narrative will take hold among Trump supporters and will be their 'proof' to question unfavorable election results," said Dennis Darnoi, a Republican strategist based in Michigan, a state Trump won by less than a percentage point in 2016. Trump repeatedly makes unfounded claims that mail voting leads to fraud, even though multiple studies show voter fraud in the United States to be extremely rare.

Intelligence official told to halt Russian 2020 election meddling threat assessments: whistleblower
Reuters, Sep 9 2020 12:04 PM
Acting Homeland Security Secretary Chad Wolf told a former top aide to stop providing assessments of the threat of Russian interference in the November 3 election and to play down US white supremacist activity, according to a whistleblower complaint released today. Brian Murphy, a former Homeland Security deputy undersecretary for intelligence, said in the complaint that Wolf told him in mid-May to begin reporting instead on political interference threats posed by China and Iran and to highlight the involvement of left-wing groups in domestic disorder. The instruction had come to Wolf from White House national security adviser Robert O'Brien, Murphy cited Wolf as saying.
Murphy's complaint said he declined to comply with Wolf's order because doing so "would put the country in substantial and specific danger." On a second occasion in July, Murphy said Wolf told him an intelligence notification on Russian disinformation efforts should be "held" because "it made the President look bad."

Trump lies that Biden would 'destroy' Obamacare's protections for pre-existing conditions
CNN, Sep 11 2020 5:25 PM
President Donald Trump yesterday told one of the most absurd lies of his relentlessly dishonest reelection campaign. At a campaign rally in Freeland, Michigan, Trump claimed Joe Biden "will destroy your protections for pre-existing conditions." Trump went on to say that he would himself preserve these protections. This is not only false but a complete reversal of reality. The protections for people with pre-existing conditions were created by the very Obama administration in which Biden served as Vice President – as part of Obamacare, the 2010 law Biden has vowed to preserve and strengthen if elected President. Trump, conversely, has tried repeatedly to get bills passed that would have weakened these protections. He is now trying to get the entirety of Obamacare struck down by the courts.

The Economist ( https://projects.economist.com/us-20...cast/president ) gives Joe Biden a 96% chance of winning the popular vote and an 83% chance of winning in the Electoral College. Fifty-one days till election day.
Analysis: Why Biden's national lead matters
CNN, Sep 13 2020 10:43 AM ET
A new Monmouth University poll finds that former Vice President Joe Biden holds a 51% to 44% lead over President Donald Trump among likely voters. Among registered voters, it's Biden 51% to 42% for Trump. The average of the two, an 8-point Biden advantage, is in-line with the national polling average. But winning the popular vote means nothing in and of itself. You only become president if you win the Electoral College. That said, the national polling matters a lot.
Last week, I outlined how Biden's margin in the pivotal Electoral College states was narrower than in the popular vote. That's still true today and will almost certainly be true through the election. There is a limit, however, to the extent to which Biden can win in the popular vote without also taking an Electoral College majority. If Biden wins by more than 5 points nationally, he's almost certainly going to win enough electoral votes to get to at least 270 and take the Electoral College.

The editors of a science magazine are, not surprisingly, opposed to a President who continually rejects science and believes he knows better than everyone else.
An endorsement for Biden from an unexpected source
Yahoo News, Sep 15 2020 6:54 PM ET
Scientific American today endorsed Joe Biden, the first Presidential endorsement in the magazine's 175-year history. Its editors said they felt "compelled" to do so because President Trump's well-documented rejection of science, from climate change to the coronavirus, has cost tens of thousands of American lives.
"The pandemic would strain any nation and system," the editors wrote, "but Trump's rejection of evidence and public health measures have been catastrophic in the US. He was warned many times in January and February about the onrushing disease, yet he did not develop a national strategy to provide protective equipment, coronavirus testing or clear health guidelines. Trump claimed, falsely, that 'anybody that wants a test can get a test.' That was untrue in March and remained untrue through the summer. Trump opposed $25 billion for increased testing and tracing that was in a pandemic relief bill as late as July. These lapses accelerated the spread of disease through the country, particularly in highly vulnerable communities that include people of color, where deaths climbed disproportionately to those in the rest of the population." The monthly magazine has a circulation of 3.5 million.
