Trump says he will be a "big loser" if the GOP tax plan is passed. That is not true. He would save many millions of dollars in taxes. The tax plan benefits banks, big corporations and the wealthiest Americans. Among the middle class, as many as 36% of Americans could be paying higher taxes. If we're fortunate, the tax plan will fail the same way all the GOP healthcare plans failed.

Lawsuit lunacy has reached a new high. Or is it "low"?
Jury awards $7.5 million to man who says he was injured buying watermelons at Walmart
FOX News, Nov 9 2017
An Alabama jury on Wednesday awarded $7.5 million to a man who sued Walmart after he said he broke his hip buying watermelon at a store in Phenix City. Henry Walker, who was 59 at the time, claimed that on June 25, 2015, his foot became trapped in a pallet beneath a stack of watermelons while he reached for one. Walmart has maintained that the display was not dangerous and that any negligence was Walker's fault. "We are disappointed in the verdict," a Walmart spokesman said. "We appreciate the jury's service, however we believe that the damages awarded were excessive in light of the facts in this case. We plan to appeal." Walmart continues to uses the same displays for watermelon despite the incident.

Mike Pence's NFL stunt cost police department $14,000
HuffPost US, Nov 14 2017 2:42 PM
A planned political stunt by Vice President Mike Pence, in which he walked out of an NFL game in protest of players kneeling during the national anthem, cost the Indiana Metropolitan Police Department more than $14,000. During an October game between the Indianapolis Colts and San Francisco 49ers, Pence made a show to leave the stadium after he saw players kneel for The Star-Spangled Banner, later tweeting that he "will not dignify any event that disrespects our soldiers, our Flag or our National Anthem.”
Many believed Pence leaving the stadium was a premeditated stunt orchestrated by the White House, costing taxpayers thousands of dollars. That belief was confirmed when President Donald Trump tweeted that he had told Pence to leave once players knelt. Documents obtained by Citizens For Responsibility & Ethics In Washington show the IMPD spent an additional $14,163 in security costs for the vice president. The police department spending included multiple teams on the force working traffic and security, as well as overtime costs.
"The tone is set at the top when it comes to this administration’s disregard for ethics,” CREW Executive Director Noah Bookbinder said. "Vice President Pence should know better than to use taxpayer money to make a rhetorical point, but carelessness with taxpayer money seems to be a common theme with senior administration officials."

Well, nobody saw this coming:
Cards Against Humanity buys piece of the US border so Trump can't build his wall
Mashable, Nov 14 2017 3:17 PM
The dirty and sometimes downright offensive game Cards Against Humanity is back with another stunt and this time they're taking aim at one of President Donald Trump's campaign promises. The company has announced its holiday promotion, Cards Against Humanity Saves America. Essentially, the company purchased a plot of vacant land on the border of the United States and Mexico, making it extremely difficult for Trump to build his expensive border wall which the U.S. taxpayers will inevitably pay for.
"Donald Trump is a preposterous golem who is afraid of Mexicans. He is so afraid that he wants to build a $20 billion wall that everyone knows will accomplish nothing," the website reads. "So we’ve purchased a plot of vacant land on the border and retained a law firm specializing in eminent domain to make it as time-consuming and expensive as possible for the wall to get built." For $15, Cards will send you "six surprises" in the month of December, including an illustrated map of the land, a certificate of promise to fight the wall, and some new cards.

ISIS-linked propaganda poster threatens Christmas attack on the Vatican
RT, Nov 16 2017
An Islamic State-linked group has allegedly vowed to launch a Christmas terrorist attack on the Vatican. A propaganda poster depicted a jihadist driving a car at high speed towards St. Peter’s Basilica. The menacing poster was released by the pro-Islamic State group known as Wafa Media Foundation. The image shows a masked jihadist driving at high speed towards St. Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican, where Pope Francis usually celebrates Mass. An assault rifle and a rucksack are clearly visible on the seat next to the driver, who is using a satellite navigation system.
The threat from IS terrorists has tended to heighten at Christmas time. In 2016, an IS sympathizer deliberately drove a truck into the Christmas market in Berlin, leaving 12 people dead and dozens injured. The perpetrator, Anis Amri, turned out to be a rejected asylum seeker from Tunisia. He was killed days later in a shootout with police near Milan.

Report: ISIS calls for Barron Trump's assassination
Veuer, Nov 21 2017 3:42 PM
ISIS is calling for the assassination of President Trump’s 11-year-old son, Barron. That’s according to the Washington Free Beacon, which claims the call has come from pro-ISIS internet channels. ISIS supporters have reportedly shared a map showing where the child’s school is located and other personal information on a Telegram channel.
According to the Middle East Media Research Institute, the initial message, sent on November 21 by an ISIS supporter via Telegram, reportedly "called for the assassination of Barron Trump and shared the address and called for the backers of the terrorist organization to assassinate him." A hashtag using the words "handle the son of the mule of America" was said to be used, along with a photo of the youngest of President Trump’s children. The call for assassination has reportedly been widely spread, with a series of pro-ISIS telegram channels sharing and forwarding the post.

Trump's Mar-a-Lago Thanksgiving to cost taxpayers millions of dollars
Veuer, Nov 22 2017 3:29 PM
It'll be an expensive Thanksgiving for American taxpayers as President Trump spends the holiday at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Palm Beach, Florida. Newsweek reports that a single round-trip ticket for the president to visit the posh Florida property may cost taxpayers between $2 million and $3.6 million, a total mostly made up of the costs of flying on Air Force One. Trump has taken eight trips to the so-called winter White House during his time as president and has spent 25 days there in total. By the end of this Thanksgiving holiday, that number will be 30. That means taxpayers will have spent $16 million on his trips to Florida.

'Complicit' is the word of 2017, Dictionary.com announces
New York Daily News, Nov 27 2017 2:47 PM
The word of the year is "complicit," Dictionary.com announced today. According to lexicographer Jane Solomon, searches for the word increased nearly 300 percent over the last year, due to a number of issues such as the Hollywood sexual assault scandal, the opioid crisis and Trump's ties to Russia. The site defines the word as "choosing to be involved in an illegal or questionable act, especially with others."

Supreme Court lets Trump's latest travel ban go into full effect
Reuters, Dec 4 2017 4:47 PM
The U.S. Supreme Court today handed a victory to President Donald Trump by allowing his latest travel ban targeting people from six Muslim-majority countries to go into full effect even as legal challenges continue in lower courts. The court, with two of the nine justices dissenting, granted his administration's request to lift two injunctions imposed by lower courts that had partially blocked the ban, which is the third version of a contentious policy that Trump first sought to implement a week after taking office in January.
The high court's action means that the ban will now go fully into effect for people seeking to enter the United States from Iran, Libya, Syria, Yemen, Somalia and Chad. Lower courts had previously limited the scope of the ban to people without certain family or other connections to the United States. Trump's ban also covers people from North Korea and certain government officials from Venezuela, but lower courts had already allowed those provisions to go into effect.
The nine-member high court said in two similar one-page orders on Monday that lower court rulings that partly blocked the latest ban should be put on hold while appeals courts in San Francisco and Richmond, Virginia weigh the cases. Both courts are due to hear arguments in those cases this week. Two of the court's liberal justices, Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Sonia Sotomayor, said they would have denied the administration's request.
The ban was challenged in separate lawsuits by the state of Hawaii and the American Civil Liberties Union. Both sets of challengers said the latest ban, like the earlier ones, discriminates against Muslims in violation of the U.S. Constitution and is not permissible under immigration laws. Trump issued his first travel ban targeting several Muslim-majority countries in January, then issued a revised one in March after the first was blocked by federal courts. The second one expired in September after a long court fight and was replaced with the present version.

I agree with Pope Francis. God does not "lead us into temptation."
Pope Francis proposes change to the Lord's Prayer
New York Daily News, Dec 9 2017 10:11 AM
Pope Francis has proposed a fix to the Lord’s Prayer that’s bedeviled him for years. The pontiff told an Italian TV network Friday that he opposes the phrase "lead us not into temptation." The Pope said, "That is not a good translation. It is not God who pushes me into temptation and then sees how I fall," Francis said. A father does not do this. A father quickly helps those who are provoked into Satan's temptation."
The "Our Father" prayer, the best known in Christianity, is memorized by hundreds of millions of Catholics. The interpretation of the ancient text has been a subject of debate for centuries. Some theologians have argued that the original phrasing was lost in translation as it morphed from different languages. The prayer is a translation from the Latin Vulgate, a 4th-Century Latin translation of the Bible, which itself was translated from ancient Greek, Hebrew and Aramaic. Francis noted that France’s Catholic church had days earlier formally adopted similar language to what he proposed. "The Catholic faithful will say 'Do not let us enter into temptation,'" the church wrote.
