Later Lloyd, have a good one. Things are very slow in my office today. That's why I have a little time to engage in this conversation.

She pays the taxes that are taken out of her check weekly, net of whatever she gets back at the end of the year. The tax table for 26K is $3,486 filing single minus deductions/exemptions.
The rebates are primarily because of the financial meltdown (the car rebate you mentioned).
She pays no tax. She gets every penny that she pays weekly refunded at the end of the year.
What you are forgetting is the deductions for the child, the mortgage, the child care, the medical costs, etc. etc.
Very few of the 18 people that I employ pay any Federal Income Tax at all.
It's the deductions that are killing our country. We ALL should pay our share of the cost of running our government. There should be NO deductions for any reason. If you make a paycheck, you should pay taxes.
Over 40% of the adult population of the USA don't pay Federal Income Tax
It's not her fault that she doesn't pay for Defense, or Welfare, or Education, or anything that our government funds other than Social Security and Medicare.
The system has been wrecked by politicians like Kennedy, Regan, Bush, and Obama. These guys buy votes by lowering taxes and running on defecit spending. That is wrong and it always has been.
It seems like you want to blame our Nations problems on guys that make a good paycheck. I can say this with confidence. If I didn't make a good paycheck. Those 18 employees wouldn't have a job.
I don't make 80K a year and yet I pay on a percentage basis a whole lot more in taxes than my employees do.
I'd like us all to pay around 10% of our incomes in tax. I think if we ALL did that, I wouldn't have to pay 20% or more year in and year out.
Don't begrudge a person for acheiving. Perhaps I could have been a hedge fund manager had I received "A's" in college, and applied myself to my career 12 hours a day. I didn't.
The trickle down theory is not about "rich", it is about reducing all tax so that all individuals can keep more of what they earn. For example, I paid over $12,000 in federal tax. What would I do if I had paid $6000? I could have spent that on home improvements, saved it..... both of which are beneficial to this economy. Now imagine the entire middle class doing that?? That's trickle down economics.
I mentioned exemptions/deductions.
Perhaps you are not aware of how little money 40-50k @ yr GROSS is to a family. When the burden of taxation falls disproportionately on those at the lowest levels something is wrong. Haven't you heard Buffet's remark - his secretary pays more as a percentage of her income than he does.
You're wrong. Didn't you see my remarks above, e.g., re hedge fund managers tax rates. Yet you think your employee is getting away with something.
Oh yes, I forgot corporate welfare and tax evasion - BILLIONS @ YEAR. But let's focus on 26K @ yr.
Yes, those that make a lot of money are so entiltled to more. You apparently don't find anything wrong with a 15% tax rate on millions or a billion a year for hedge fund managers. You just wish it was you.
Your mind-set prevents you from seeing anything wrong with the treatment that the wealthy see as their rightfull due.
Ralph,
It's not my employee that is getting away with something. It's over 40% of the adults in this country that don't pay ANY Federal Income Tax after they take deductions and credits. That's the problem.
I don't care how hard it is to live on 40K a year. You still have a duty to your country to pay for your share of freedom. It's really a simple idea.
Why do you expect hedge fund managers and corporations to pay for everything that the government supplies? That isn't what our Founding Fathers had in mind, or at least I don't think they planned it out that way.
I don't think that wealthy people feel like poor people should pay more in taxes on a percentage basis than the wealthy do. I think we should all want equal and fair treatment. That means that we ALL should pay our share, not just the wealthy.
I know a lot of Democrats that would disagree with the logic that you are using. Most Democrats don't blame the wealthy for the state of affairs we are in. I'm pretty sure that President Obama doesn't.
To your first point; yes they do. That's where the flat tax BS comes from regularly.
Second, pay their fair share, you say. What if there is nothing left from which to pay the "fair share".
Third, do you know how much the difference is now between the lower/middle level wage earners and the top? It hasn't been this high since the 20s. It's out of control. How did it get that way if everyone pays "their fair share"?????
The wealth inequality is huge. Should we not care but rather continue to bleed stones because it's "fair" and that's the FAIR YOU CARE ABOUT.
You would if you were desperate!
Let's do away with charity then and have everyone get sick, suffer and die. Your way IS better! I see it now. Much cleaner, much simpler and less riff-raff to accomodate. Let the well-off party begin. Those losers are ALL sponging anyway, right?

No, people who earn a lot should pay as well. According to the link here, anyone making over $350,000 should be paying 35%. If I wished I were a hedge fund manager, I'd probably be one. I chose not to achieve. It's on me.
I'm glad you want those with income to pay what they should. Now if only the Pentagon, military, corporations that privatize profit and socialize losses, and others, like the ones that stole billions from the money that went to Iraq on pallets of CASH in bundles of 100 dollar bills would stop stealing we could accomplish something.
Never, never, never happen.
