Vocalist Marc Almond and synthesizer player David Ball formed Soft Cell in 1978 in London. Their biggest hit, Tainted Love (first recorded in 1964 by Gloria Jones), reached number one in the UK and #8 in the United States in 1981. On the 12-inch single, Tainted Love fades into a remake of the Supremes' Where Did Our Love Go. Among Soft Cell's other Britiish hits are Torch, What, Bedsitter, Soul Inside, Where The Heart Is and Say Hello, Wave Goodbye.
