Curtis joined the Crickets in 1958 and became lead singer after Buddy Holly died in a plane crash in 1959. Curtis released eight solo albums and had 13 country hits, 1966-86, including Good Ol' Girls, My Way Of Life, The Cowboy Singer and a remake of Paul Simon's 50 Ways To Leave Your Lover. Curtis wrote and recorded the Mary Tyler Moore Show theme song, Love Is All Around.
