Emperor Trump is still repeating his outrageous lies that he's done nothing wrong and his phone call with Zelensky was "perfect." He's now come up with an equally outrageous prediction: "Impeachment will be used routinely to attack future Presidents." Some day he might actually read the Constitution and learn what the impeachment process is all about – but I'm not holding my breath.

Turley is one of those typical Republican lawyers who believe everything a Democrat does is bad but nothing a Republican does is bad. I wonder where Turley earned his master's degree in Double Standards.
The GOP's only impeachment witness contradicted his own previous testimony
Business Insider, Dec 4 2019 12:23 PM
Jonathan Turley, a law professor who appeared as a Republican witness in Wednesday's impeachment hearings, made a number of claims that directly contradicted his previous statements and testimony. Turley argued there was no proof that President Donald Trump broke a specific law related to the Ukraine scandal and therefore should not be impeached. But in 1998, Turley made the opposite case, telling Congress during Bill Clinton's impeachment hearings that Clinton's actions didn't need to violate any laws in order to be impeachable conduct. "While there's a high bar for what constitutes grounds for impeachment, an offense does not have to be indictable," he wrote in a 2014 op-ed for The Washington Post.

White House counsel Pat Cipollone says "adopting articles of impeachment would be a reckless abuse of power by House Democrats and would constitute the most unjust, highly partisan and unconstitutional attempt at impeachment in our nation's history." Cipollone, same as Donald Trump, seems to know nothing about the Constitution of the United States. Impeachment is Constitutional. And if he wants to see "reckless abuse of power," he can look at his boss.

On November 29, Williams, a national security aide, provided written testimony about a September 18 Pence-Zelensky phone call. In a letter, Adam Schiff asked Mike Pence to declassify details of the call so Williams' testimony can be made public as part of the impeachment investigation. Schiff reminded Pence that an executive order says information relating to illegal actions "shall not be classified, continue to be maintained as classified or fail to be declassified." Pence's office has not yet responded. Pence has also refused to turn over requested documents. He should be reminded how cover-ups doomed the Nixon Presidency.

CNN's Ari Melber today noted that Republicans are not disputing the details of the Trump-Zelensky phone call. They can't. And Mick Mulvaney's admission of the quid-pro-quo offer – military aid in exchange for dirt on Biden – is, in Melber's words, the "smoking gun." Melber predicts Trump and the Republicans will handle the impeachment trial the same way they dealt with the Mueller investigation: Distract, distort, divert, discredit and try to mislead the American people into believing Trump did nothing wrong. Sorry, Republicans, but jeopardizing national security and our election process by pressuring a foreign government to investigate a political rival is a violation of the Presidential oath of office.
Melber also expects Republicans will claim Trump was only trying to "root out corruption" – even though he never even mentioned corruption during his phone call and even though he's never sought to "root out corruption" in any country other than Ukraine. And what an amazing coincidence that the supposed "corruption" involves Joe Biden!

Withholding miitary aid and pressuring a foreign country to investigate a political rival constitutes bribery and an abuse of power. Barring witnesses from testifying and refusing to provide subpoenaed documents is obstruction of Congress. Republicans disagree. They insist Trump has done nothing wrong and certainly nothing impeachable. They accuse Democrats of making this impeachment a partisan issue but, by continuing to defend Trump, Republicans are the ones who have turned impeachment into a partisan issue: Trump and the Republican party come first and the Constitution, the rule of law, the balance of powers, the Presidential oath of office and the integrity of our elections do not matter. Not at all.

The LA Times joins the growing group of major newspapers calling for Trump's impeachment
Business Insider, Dec 7 2019 9:45 AM
The Los Angeles Times editorial board today called for President Donald Trump's impeachment. Less than a week after the impeachment inquiry transitioned into a new phase in the House Judiciary Committee, the Times' editorial board wrote: "We've seen enough. Trump should be impeached. Trump perverted US foreign policy for his own political gain. That sort of misconduct is outrageous and corrosive of democracy. It can't be ignored by the House and it merits a full trial by the Senate on whether to remove him from office." A growing number of major newspapers are publicly calling for Trump's impeachment while criticizing his dealings with Ukraine and efforts to stonewall the impeachment inquiry.

Impeachment is a political process, not a legal process. Otherwise, Trump's three-year history of abuse of power, unconstitutional actions, witness intimidation, obstruction of Congress and obstruction of justice would result in his removal from office. In a Senate trial, however, the blindly loyal Republican members of the Cult of Donald Trump will ensure he remains in the Presidency so he can continue abusing his power, threatening witnesses, obstructing Congress, obstructing justice and committing unconstitutional actions. What a sad time for our nation.

Letter from Ted Carmely of Sherman Oaks in today's Los Angeles Times:
"Trump will be impeached by the House but the Republican-controlled Senate will acquit him. This prompts us to consider the 2020 election. How can any honest person vote for someone who cannot stop lying? How can any woman vote for a man with a history of debasing women? How can any fiscal conservative vote for someone who fights tooth and nail to hide his taxes and has overseen our national debt ballooning to $21 trillion? How can any scientist vote for someone who repudiates everything we know about pollution and global warming? How can any veteran or active soldier vote for a man who avoided service during the Vietnam War? How can any patriotic American vote for a leader who has invited a foreign power to intervene in our election and attacks public servants who protect our national security?"
I would add: How can Republicans continue to be blindly loyal members of the Cult of Donald Trump and continue to support and defend the President who commits all the above offenses? Trump is a total disgrace to the office of the Presidency.

Today's House resolution containing the articles of impeachment begins, "Resolved, That Donald J. Trump, President of the United States, is impeached for high crimes and misdemeanors and that the following articles of impeachment be exhibited to the United States Senate." Trump's abuse of power and obstruction of Congress are then thoroughly documented. The resolution concludes that Trump "has demonstrated that he will remain a threat to the Constitution if allowed to remain in office and has acted in a manner grossly incompatible with self-governance and the rule of law. President Trump thus warrants impeachment and trial, removal from office, and disqualification to hold and enjoy any office of honor, trust or profit under the United States." CNN's Zachary Wolf and Curt Merrill offer an in-depth analysis of the resolution:

Emperor Trump's abuse of power and obstruction of Congress were well-known long before the impeachment process began. Even though Trump's "high crimes and misdemeanors" are clearly spelled out in today's articles of impeachment, the orange-skinned Tweeter-In-Chief continues to insist he's done "nothing wrong" and continues to denounce impeachment as "madness," a "scam" and a "witch hunt." Likewise, Congressional Republicans continue to ignore the facts, the evidence, the Constitution, the rule of law and the Presidential oath of office and continue to defend Trump. CNN contributor Jeffrey Toobin is correct: The Republican party now exists in name only. It has become the Donald Trump party. Three hundred twenty-eight days till Election Day.

House Democrats are upholding the Constitution and the rule of law and are using the Constitutional process of impeachment against a President who is guilty of abuse of power, obstruction of Congress, obstruction of justice, witness intimidation and the seeking of foreign interference in the 2020 election. House Democrats rightfully believe no one is above the law. Emperor Trump, however, believes he is above the law – and every Senate Republican concurs. They put Trump and their party above all else. They worship Donald Trump as a god. By their votes, they will ensure he remains above the law. They have helped Donald Trump turn America into a monarchy. I have no doubt that if Trump, à la Jim Jones, asked them to commit mass suicide by drinking cyanide-laced grape Flavor Aid, they would all do so without hesitation. What a sad, dark time in our nation's history.
