"We sure could use a little good news today," sang Anne Murray in a number-one country hit from 1983. That sentiment is more true now than ever -- and that is what this thread is about. Here is some good news involving a Santa Claus who wears a bus driver's uniform:

Radio City Music Hall has the Rockettes. Los Angeles has the Rollettes. These are wheelchair-bound women with spinal cord injuries who are not allowing their disability to keep them from dancing. They have taken part in dance competitions and they were featured on The Today Show in 2017. CBS News' Caitlin O'Kane just wrote about them:

A popular song says "children are our future." Here is a group of kids in Spokane who have formed a Kindness Club and who, I am hopeful, are learning that showing kindness is something they should continue to do every day, for as long as they live. If we all learned that lesson, the future would be infinitely brighter.

I don't know why the Washington Post felt it necessary to identify this 15-year-old as "autistic." There were better words they could have used. How about "unselfish" or "caring" or "compassionate"?

It's nice to hear a Chicago news story that doesn't involve shootings and killing. As Wednesday's temperature dropped to -25°, a real estate agent paid for 30 hotel rooms so a hundred homeless people would have a warm place to stay. She also provided food, clothes and transportation for them -- and her kindness inspired others to pay for rooms. Sixty rooms are now filled and Chicago's homeless know there really are people who care about their plight.

With the number of independent bookstore owners dwindling, I suppose it isn't surprising that they would stick together -- figuratively, not literally.

A boy born with a heart defect underwent two surgeries in his first year of life and will eventually need a third surgery. The mother couldn't afford to care for the boy and asked a pediatric nurse to adopt him. It was surely a difficult decision for the mother and I'd like to think the adoptive parents will allow the woman to continue to be a part of the boy's life.
