The Fifth Amendment to the United States Constitution guarantees "due process of law" in criminal proceedings. The Supreme Court ruled in 1953 that non-citizens are guaranteed due process as well. We have a President who doesn't know -- or care -- about the Constitution. And why oh why can't he stay off Twitter?

This Los Angeles Times essay explains how Trump is "distorting the truth." I think it would be more accurate to say Trump is making up stories which in his own mind he believes are true.

Here is an excellent thought-provoking essay by Sarah Bilston, a professor of English literature. She compares Trump's immigration policies to the "Poor Laws" enacted in England in 1835. Children were separated from their parents and forced into workhouses. Many families were never reunited. The laws' "profound inhumanity" inspired Charles Dickens' Oliver Twist.

Fox News' Laura Ingraham said the immigrant detention centers are "essentially summer camps" for children. Really, Laura? Then why are so many children fleeing them? Huh? And the runaways are being branded with the demeaning name UAC (Unaccompanied Alien Child).

In a just-released Gallup poll, 87% of Republicans approve of Donald Trump's job performance. Only 5% of Democrats approve and only 38% of independents approve. How can Republican lawmakers continue to support this man after all his lies, bluster, boasts, threats, insults, idiotic tweets, racism and inhumane immigration policies? Meanwhile.....
Tech workers protest government ties as migrant conflict rages
CBS News, Jun 25 2018 3:14 PM
Some employees at Microsoft, Amazon and Google are calling for the companies that hire them to reconsider relationships with the US government, especially work with Immigration & Customs Enforcement, based on ethical grounds. The government ties have come under increasing scrutiny as news of refugee parents and children being separated at the US border has led employees to question how technologies such as geolocation and facial recognition may be used.
Microsoft has a cloud computing contract wth ICE. Google has worked with the Pentagon on an AI program that cold be used for drone strikes. Amazon employees are concerned about how the retail giant's facial recognition program might be used by the Department of Homeland Security. "The employees at technology firms have said, 'Look, our tech is capable of many things, but if we don't rein it in now, it could run away from us and be used for some potentially horrible things,'" said TechRepublic senior reporter Dan Patterson.

Yes, the immigration agency has indeed been perverted by "Trump and his team of white nationalists" but this bill to eliminate it has no more than a zero percent chance of passing.

The woman who leaked the audio, video and photos had recently quit her job at the detention center because she hated seeing chidren separated from their parents. I was watching MSNBC last night when Rachel Maddow shared the footage. Speaking in Spanish, a worker warns the kids that if they speak to the press they could wind up spending more time in detention and away from their parents. I doubt any of these children or their parents would say Trump has made America "great."

Ronald Vitiello is now going to be hated, criticized and condemned by millions of Americans. I'm guessing the man who serves as Director Of Taking Candy From Babies is far more popular than anyone working at ICE.
ICE names new acting director amid immigration turmoil
CBS News, Jun 30 2018 6:51 PM
US Immigration & Customs Enforcement has a new acting director, Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen announced today. Ronald Vitiello, who has been serving as the acting deputy commissioner of US Customs & Border Protection, is now ICE's acting director and deputy director. Vitiello replaces Thomas Homan, who announced in May he would be retiring and leaving his post.
Vitiello became a border patrol agent in 1985 and has worked in law enforcement for more than 30 years. He takes over at a crucial time for the agency. ICE is under scrutiny as President Trump's "zero-tolerance" policies at the southern border have led to family separations, ultimately sparking nationwide protests and calls for ICE to be abolished altogether.
