The makers of Krispy Kreme doughnuts are looking to introduce a new flavor and you can help. From now until Monday, you can go to http://krispykreme.com/voteforglaze and vote on which new mouth-watering glaze will cover the donuts. You get to choose from blueberry, caramel, lemon and maple. The website allows one vote per day. Last year the company turned its donuts green for Saint Patrick's Day and created a chocolate glaze to celebrate the eclipse. Krispy Kreme will announce the winner on January 25.

If you catch a craving for burger and fries, McDonald’s is always a short drive away. But to ensure you get a fresh meal every time, you might need to take one extra step. Kamran Adnan, who says he worked for the fast food chain for one year, claims the staff gives extra perks to customers who ask for a receipt. Doing so will practically guarantee you’re served the freshest food, he wrote in a Quora post.
According to Adnan, McDonald’s employees are trained to watch out for "mystery shoppers" or "Gapbusters" — people who are paid to visit McDonald’s restaurants and rate their experience — at certain points in the day. These shoppers tend to dine between 12 to 2 PM and 5 to 7 PM. Because their reviews factor into the store’s rating, "every store manager will do everything to ensure this rating is as positive as possible," Adnan said. These undercover diners are typically reimbursed for their purchase so they will ask for a receipt. This signals to employees that the diner might be a "Gapbuster." Not only will they make sure to serve that customer first, they will also give him the freshest food possible.

For $3,000, patrons at one Boston restaurant can order a burger that comes with an engagement ring on the side. Pauli’s in the city’s North End says with 48-hours’ notice, the restaurant’s Big Boy burger will arrive with a 7/8 carat Neil Lane ring nestled in the bun. The ring will come framed with round diamonds and a 14k gold band. The burger is part of a new Valentine’s Day special. It's similar to Sprite Remix, which had strawberry and pineapple flavors and was available for a limited time on store shelves. The project’s code name: "Better Chicken." The push -- laid out in a letter to franchisees, who operate about 90% of U.S. locations -- aims to extend a three-year growth run by being more like Chick-fil-A.
McDonald’s has already taken steps to elevate its poultry, which was long seen as a serviceable if uninspiring part of the menu. It’s vowed to stop serving chicken with antibiotics and removed artificial preservatives from nuggets. The chain also rolled out Southern-style sandwiches and tenders, which are coated in a crispy buttermilk breading similar to that of Chick-fil-A. The idea now is to build on that push and establish McDonald’s as a top-tier chicken restaurant rather than just a burger joint. McDonald’s, based in Oak Brook, Illinois, declined to comment on the specifics of the letter.

On the February 11 episode of ABC's Shark Tank, Mark Cuban and Barbara Corcoran invested in Brooklyn eatery Avocaderia. Each investor offered $200,000 for a 10% stake, giving the restaurant a $2 million valuation. The fast-casual restaurant, founded by the Italian trio of Alessandro Biggi, Francesco Brachetti and Alberto Gramini, is making the most of the millennial avocado craze by serving avocado-based salads, sandwiches, bowls, smoothies and desserts.
Biggi came up with the idea two years ago when he was living in Seattle. "I wasn't the best chef but one thing I could make was avocado toast," he said. He called Brachetti and within a year the concept of opening "the world's first avocado bar" had turned into a popular restaurant in Brooklyn. On average, the restaurant serves around 250 people per day and goes through at least 25 cases of avocados per week. Biggi hopes to open 20 more locations in the next five years.
