Senator Flake warns that Trump will face a primary opponent in 2020 'if he continues on the path he's on'
New York Daily News, Dec 24 2017 2:50 PM
Arizona Senator Jeff Flake warned that President Trump will face a primary challenge or an independent opponent in 2020 if the Republican continues his bombastic ways. "I do believe if the president is running for re-election, if he continues on the path he's on, that that's going to leave a huge swath of voters looking for someone else,” Flake said in an interview with ABC News’ This Week that aired today. "I think he’s inviting that. He’s probably inviting a Republican challenge as well." But will that challenger be Flake, who has previously bashed the President and is set to retire at the end of 2018? "I don't rule anything out but it's not in my plans,” a coy Flake said."

Democrats are already campaigning for 2020
NBC News, Jan 2 2018 4:52 PM
Former Vice President Joe Biden is going to look a lot like a presidential candidate this year.He plans to raise money for Senate Democratic incumbents, campaign for Democratic challengers in Republican-held House districts that Hillary Clinton won in 2016 and engage in state-level races where the pickup of a couple of seats could flip control of a legislative chamber. "You're going to see him all over the place," said Greg Schultz, executive director of Biden's American Possibilities PAC.
Biden won't be alone. Nearly one year into Donald Trump's presidency — with the president's approval rating hovering around 40% — Biden is one of roughly two dozen Democrats who are considering a bid for the White House in 2020. The list includes governors, senators, House members, mayors and even celebrities such as former professional wrestler Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. A handful of hopefuls have already visited Iowa and New Hampshire, the first-in-the-nation caucus and primary states, and those trips will increase in frequency as the year unfolds. And some have long since hired presidential campaign veterans onto their staffs.

Polls should reflect the views of people who actually have an opinion. "Unsure" and "I don't know" should not be allowed as responses.
Poll: Oprah would beat Trump in 2020 but most don't want her to run for president
AOL News, Jan 13 2018 7:00 AM
Speculation around Oprah Winfrey's intentions to potentially run for president have been running rampant since her remarks at the Golden Globes on Sunday but according to a new poll, most Americans don't think she should run. The survey conducted by PBS NewsHour, NPR and Marist found that 54% of adults and registered voters in the United States think she shouldn't run for president in 2020. A third said she should run, while another 11% said they didn't know. The poll involved 1,350 adult participants and was conducted from January 8 to January 10.
While most don't want to see her run, the same survey suggests that she would win if she were running against President Donald Trump. The poll found 50% would back Winfrey, whereas only 39% would vote for Trump and 11% were unsure.

This new national poll shows "majority support for immigrants" and "decreasing support for Trump." Only 40% would vote for a Republican in the 2018 elections while 51% would vote for a Democrat. Given a list of ten potential Democratic candidates for the 2020 Presidential election, respondents favored Joe Biden (28%), then Bernie Sanders (22%), Hillary Clinton (19%) and Elizabeth Warren (11%). What I think the Democrats need is somebody younger -- but who?

Gentlemen, start your campaigning.
In New Hampshire, the 2020 presidential race is already well underway
NBC News, Apr 07 2018 6:52 AM
Potential candidates are shaking hands and taking questions from prospective voters, introductions and discussions are going on behind the scenes and Saint Anselm College’s "Politics & Eggs" conversation series has resumed. The political world might still be recovering from the 2016 presidential election and focusing now on the midterm fights for Congress, but here in the nation's first primary state the battle for 2020 is already well underway.
On Tuesday, two potential presidential contenders, Republican Governor John Kasich of Ohio and former Democratic Governor Martin O’Malley of Maryland, swung through the state, bringing with them a barrage of national media ready to report on possible challengers to a controversial incumbent president consistently struggling with scandal and approval ratings. Their trips followed recent visits from others — Arizona Republican Senator Jeff Flake and Democrats including Julian Castro, Oregon Senator Jeff Merkley and Representatives. Seth Moulton of Massachusetts and Tim Ryan from Ohio.
With such a wide-open field on the Democratic side and the potential for a primary of a sitting president on the Republican side, many feel things are buzzing earlier than ever. "Here in New Hampshire, the 2020 cycle has already begun," said Wayne Lesperance, the Dean of Undergraduate Programs and political science professor at New England College, in between events with O’Malley and Kasich. Activity is increasing so quickly "because of the absolute craziness that's going on in D.C." said state Democratic Senator Lou D'Allesandro. "As a result, things will perk earlier."

Poll: Older, educated white voters shift away from Trump's Republican party
Reuters, Apr 9 2018 9:11 AM
Older, white, educated voters helped Donald Trump win the White House in 2016. Now, they are trending toward Democrats in such numbers that their ballots could tip the scales in tight congressional races from New Jersey to California, a new Reuters/Ipsos poll and a data analysis of competitive districts show.
Nationwide, whites over the age of 60 with college degrees now favor Democrats over Republicans for Congress by a 2-point margin, according to Reuters/Ipsos opinion polling during the first three months of the year. During the same period in 2016, that same group favored Republicans for Congress by 10 percentage points. The 12-point swing is one of the largest shifts in support toward Democrats that the Reuters/Ipsos poll has measured over the past two years. If that trend continues, Republicans will struggle to keep control of the House of Representatives, and possibly the Senate, in the November elections, potentially dooming President Donald Trump's legislative agenda.

Five familiar Democrats -- perhaps too familiar -- are hoping Democrats can regain control of Congress. They're campaigning and fundraising for candidates in this year's midterm elections and each of them is considering running for President in 2020. Biden and Sanders probably have the best chances.....but Biden is 75 and Sanders is 76. Would younger voters vote for them? And when I ask questions, it is permissible for other Sirius Buzz members to respond. What do I have to do to get people to participate in these discussions?
