The Broadway cast album of Hair won a Grammy award in 1969. Two Gentlemen Of Verona won two Tony awards in 1971, for best musical and best book of a musical. The music for all those great songs -- Hair, Good Morning Starshine, Easy To Be Hard, Aquarius, Let The Sunshine In, Love's Revenge, I Love My Father, Two Gentlemen Of Verona -- was composed by Galt MacDermot.

The characters of Laverne DeFazio and Shirley Feeney, played by Penny Marshall and Cindy Williams, respectively, appeared in an episode of Happy Days and were immediately popular, enough to get their own series. Laverne & Shirley premiered January 27, 1976 and was the highest-rated show for the week. "Schlemiel! Schlimazel! Hasenpfeffer, Incorporated!"

Jimmy Work wrote and recorded Making Believe in 1955. It reached #5 on Billboard's country chart. A version by Kitty Wells reached #2 that same year and Emmylou Harris had a hit with the song in 1977. Work's second hit, That's What Makes The Juke Box Play, also reached #5 in 1955 -- and he appeared at a few concerts that year along with an up-and-coming singer named Elvis Presley.

Guitarist James Wilsey, who played on seven albums as a member of the punk-rock band The Avengers and played on four Chris Isaak albums, died December 24 at age 61. Wilsey played that distinctive tremolo intro to Isaak's 1990 hit Wicked Game.

Walk Off The Earth formed in 2006 in Burlington, Ontario. They've released six albums, eight EPs and 11 singles. Their biggest hit was a 2012 live remake of Gotye's Somebody That I Used To Know. Their music often features bongos, kazoos, spoons, theremin, glockenspiel, harpejji, whirly tubes and other unusual instruments.

Lusk worked at the Walt Disney Studios from 1933 to 1960, animating characters in Ferdinand, Pinocchio, Cinderella, Bambi, Fantasia, Peter Pan, Sleeping Beauty, Lady & The Tramp, Song Of The South, Alice In Wonderland and 101 Dalmatians. Whew! He also worked at UPA, free-lanced for Bill Melendez and Walter Lantz and spent 23 years as a director at Hanna-Barbera.

In March 1973, after Dr. Hook's The Cover Of Rolling Stone became a top-ten hit, the band really did get their picture on the cover of Rolling Stone. Sadly, Ray Sawyer, who sang lead on that song, today has his name on the obituary page. Among Dr. Hook's many other hits are Sylvia's Mother, Only Sixteen, Sexy Eyes, Sharing The Night Together and When You're In Love With A Beautiful Woman.

McKay payed Tony in the original London and Tokyo productions of West Side Story. He sang two solos, Something's Coming and Maria, and two duets with "Maria." McKay performed Gotta Have Me Go With You alongside Judy Garland in the opening sequence of the 1954 movie A Star Is Born. In the 1980s-90s, he acted in regional theater productions and worked as a voice coach.

Einstein was a writer for The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour (1967-69), on which he also made nine appearances as a motorcycle cop named Officer Judy. On one episode, Liberace was playing piano. Officer Judy rode up, got off his motorcycle and asked, "Do you know how fast you were playing?" He wrote Liberace a ticket. Einstein was also a writer for comedy/variety series hosted by Ken Berry, Pat Paulsen, Sonny & Cher and the Hudson Brothers and starred in several Super Dave programs.

In the end, love could not keep them together. Toni Tennille was by Daryl's side today when he died of kidney failure. Daryl, whose father was conductor/composer/arranger Carmen Dragon, played keyboards for the Beach Boys from 1967 to 1972 and it was Mike Love who nicknamed him "The Captain."
