Camp was inspired to create Benji after watching Lady & The Tramp with his wife. He wrote and directed six Benji movies and created the 1983 CBS children's series Benji, Zax & The Alien Prince. In 2018, Camp's son Brandon wrote and directed a reboot of the first Benji movie (1974).
