"“I believe all the people who died on that day and the days following would still be here today had it not been for Donald Trump wanting to mess with our democracy," Garza told CNN. Of course Trump does not believe in democracy. Or the Constitution. Or the Bill of Rights. Or the rule of law.

Deranged, demented, delusional Donald has spent 20 months spreading The Big Lie that the 2020 Presidential election was "rigged" and "stolen" from him. He knows that is not true – but since when has Donald Trump ever cared about the truth?
Liz Cheney at January 6 hearing: Trump is not 'an impressionable child'
Yahoo News July 12 2022,11:07 AM
The House select committee’s series of public hearings resumed today with panel Vice Chair Liz Cheney telling those watching that the idea that then-President Donald Trump was "incapable of telling right from wrong" while perpetuating the election falsehoods that fueled the January 6, 2021 attack on the U.S. Capitol is "nonsense."
“President Trump is a 76-year-old man,” the Republican Congresswoman from Wyoming said in her opening remarks. “He is not an impressionable child. Just like everyone else in our country, he is responsible for his own actions and his own choices.” Cheney said the committee has clearly established that Trump knew he lost the 2020 Presidential election but continued to spread his false claims of fraud. "Virtually everyone close to President Trump – his Justice Department officials, his White House advisers, his White House counsel, his campaign – all told him the election was not stolen," she said.

The January 6 select committee obtained the draft of an unsent and undated tweet and has made it public: "I will be making a Big Speech at 10AM on January 6th at the Ellipse. Please arrive early, massive crowds expected. March to the Capitol after. Stop the Steal!!" Florida Representative Stephanie Murphy noted that Trump's January 6 command to his blindly loyal supporters to march to the Capitol "was not a spontaneous call to action but rather was a deliberate strategy decided upon, in advance, by the President.” Trump also wanted metal detectors removed so his supporters who were armed could join the march. Trump wanted to march with them but was prevented from doing so by the Secret Service.

Donald Trump gleefully spent 187 minutes watching televised coverage of the Capitol riot fbefore he finally released a video repeating his Big Lie of a stolen election and telling the rioters, "Go home. We love you. You're very special." He did not condemn the violence. Can you say "dereliction of duty"? I knew you could.
Trump made no calls to law enforcement or military leaders during January 6 riot, committee says
CNN, Jul 21 2022 8:54 PM ET
Several witnesses with first-hand knowledge of what was happening inside the White House on January 6 told the House Select Committee that former President Donald Trump did not place a single call to any of his law enforcement or national security officials as the Capitol attack was unfolding, according to previously unseen video testimony played during today’s hearing.
Virginia Democratic Rep. Elaine Luria, a member of the panel, stated: "We have confirmed in numerous interviews with senior law enforcement and military leaders, Vice President Pence's staff and DC government officials – none of them, not one, heard from President Trump that day. He did not call to issue orders. He did not call to offer assistance." General Mark Milley, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, told the House Select Committee he was astonished that he never heard from Trump as the Capitol attack was unfolding – suggesting his failure to act amounted to an abdication of his duties as Commander in Chief.

Many millions of Donald Trump's blindly loyal supporters believe his Big Lie that the 2020 Presidential election was "rigged" and "stolen" from him. What is truly scary is that so many of those blindly loyal supporters were willing to fight for him, to kill for him and to die for him.

"No person is above the law in this country," declared Attorney General Merrick Garland – twice – during a July 20 press conference. CNN political commentator SE Cupp responded, "That is not true. Donald Trump, from where we sit right now, is above the law. Trump has been charged with nothing. One legal watchdog has said there are at least 48 potential crimes committed by Donald Trump over the course of his Presidency or while he was campaigning. He has not been charged over allegations of sexual assault, using the government to punish his opponents, anything in connection with January 6, meddling in elections. He has thus far been above the law."
Crimes over January 6 go 'all the way up to Donald Trump,' Adam Kinzinger says
ABC News, Jul 24 2022 8:37 AM
Former President Donald Trump committed crimes related to last year's Capitol riot and should ideally be charged by the Justice Department, House January 6 committee member Adam Kinzinger contended today. "I certainly hope they're moving forward," Kinzinger, R-Illinois., told This Week co-anchor Jonathan Karl of the Justice Department's separate investigation into the events around the insurrection. "I certainly think there's evidence of crimes and I think it goes all the way up to Donald Trump."
Democrats and other Trump critics have expressed hope that the Justice Department's probe will ultimately target the former president. Attorney General Merrick Garland has repeatedly stressed that prosecutors' work and decision-making will not play out in public, but he pointedly noted last week that "no person" is above the law. When pressed by Karl about the optics of the Justice Department investigating a former President and potential future candidate, Kinzinger said he is more concerned about the precedent that would be set if Trump is not charged.

Trump's blindly loyal supporters who believed his Big Lie of a stolen election and obeyed his command to "march to the Capitol and fight like hell" saw themselves as "patriots." Before sentencing Guy Reffitt, Judge Dabney Friedrich declared, "Under no legitimate definition of the term 'patriot' does Mr. Reffitt's behavior on January 6 fit the term. It is the antithesis of the word." The rioters are "a direct threat to our democracy and will be punished as such."

The Department of Justice has a long-standing policy of not announcing investigations or indictments of major political figures during an election year. Trump begged his blindly loyal supporters to donate money to his Stop The Steal effort. Of course there was no "steal." Trump lost the 2020 election.
