Harris was up by 4 percentage points in a Civiqs survey, 3 points in a Leger survey, 2 points in a YouGov survey and one point in an Ispos survey. In the United States of America, it is possible for a Presidential candidate to win a majority or plurality of the popular vote but not become President. In 1824, 1876, 1888, 2000 and 2016, the Civil War-era relic known as the Electoral College has ignored the will of the voters and given the Presidency to a losing candidate. This could happen again in 2024. Current projections predict Trump would win 275 electoral votes, five more than necessary to secure the Presidency – but this could change. The election is three months away.
