If true hat's an incredibly quick time to sell 3 billion worth of cars. Good
news for SXM i believe.

Here it is.
Nice pickup Johnny. At first when I heard of this skydock, I thought, wow, cool. but, after reading some more, I'm perplexed over what the hell this is really going to do to increase subs. Sorry, not clicking with me. Am I wrong when I see only a device that will enable iPhone/iTouch to play thru car stereo without plugging in an audio cable? Most new cars today have a jack for just such a cable, so how is this a game changing technology? Second, to get direct satrad signal, you need to use the aftermarket type antenna...again, nothing new there either. I guess one could say that with the antenna and skydock, an iPhone can get all the programming, including Howard, which can't be done via the iPhone Sirius app over the iPhone 3G wireless network. Ok, I see that...but....again.....that limitation is self-imposed by Sirius and its failure to negotiate with Howard. Please tell me I'm missing something here.....please! And, most Howard fans already listen in their cars, so what's this going to do in that space?
I'm detecting a big yawn starting to develop over this one.....but....perhaps I'm missing the big picture here. just added: if it works with iPods as well, that's better, but, still, not sure that will do much either.
The Cash for Clunkers program has yielded 457,000 auto sales, according to the Dept of Transportation.. There are more in the pipeline, so by the time the smoke clears and the dealers get their reimbursements from the Feds, that number could be close to 600K new autos on the road.
Does anybody know the percentage of new cars that are delivered with SIRIUS?
Here's some late press, followed by a couple of more speculative links..

Sirius Building iPhone Dock?

Long-suffering Sirius XM investors who’ve held onto the stock despite its troubles are being rewarded for their perseverance. Sirius (SIRI) shares are up over 13 percent today at 68 cents. And they’re up about 26 percent for the week.
Why? A few reasons. First, there’s the government’s “cash for clunkers” program, which will likely stimulate new car sales and new Sirius subscriptions thanks to the satellite radio trials often packaged with new cars.
Then there are rumors of new iPod-related hardware that may or may not debut at the company’s holiday gift-guide event next week. Scheduled for Wednesday, that gathering promises “a new line-up of accessories…for the home, office, vehicle and beyond.” This has led some folks to speculate that we’ll soon see a Sirius dock for the iPod/iPhone.
From XMFan, which claims to have insider details on the device.
The XM SkyDock is a docking station for your iPod Touch or iPhone that turns it into a SATELLITE XM Radio receiver! Included is an XM antenna, power cord (also featuring the new transmitter technology), and docking station that turns your iPod/iPhone into an actual XM Satellite Radio receiver using the SiriusXM app.
XMFan says the dock is expected to retail for under $100 and speculates that it could drive a lot of new subscriptions. I suppose we’ll find out next week–if the device is actually announced.

Right...but that's my point. SO WHAT? Just not seeing real value here. Can't imagine people plunking down close to $100 for something like this + a new subscription. Really don't see what it adds. Gotta be something else here that we won't know about until it's released....sure hope so!
