This will exlain it fully to you...but essentially it is a settlement period at the end of each quarter for options and futures contracts (rights to buy or sell securities). As shorts generally control the stock market (as they totally do now), there can be a lot of covering and unwinding as positons get shifted to accomodate settlements.

This combined expiration of options, futures and options on futures came to be known as the Triple Witching Hour.

Because these arbitrage strategies were market-neutral, simply taking advantage of price discrepancies between the index and derivatives on the index, they didn't represent any real opinion on the market's direction. But unwinding only one side of the strategy with a market order and letting the other side cash-settle sometimes caused huge gyrations in the markets during the final hour of trading on the third Friday of that month. << :D

as far as you telling someone good call.... that is my point ... mr negative I am always right even though I am underwater in this stock man.

How dare you tell the college kid they were stupid for buying in with $125 dollars.
He now has more gains on this stock that you do. Here is your post about your position

And so everyone else knows. If you are wondering why this is still going on in this thread. Earlier argument I asked John to PM me about our personal disagreements ... He said ... "when it comes to arguments I dont do things in private. I like everything in the open." hence why it is here.

Hi everybody, this doesn't concern Sirius directly, but at this hour I would like to share some news from the homefront (Germany).
The EU has decided to back every member who is in trouble, like Hungary and Latvia, therefore there is probably no more risk of any kind of collapse and the Euro is stable. The ECB on the other side will not follow the FED, at least till now, they are still too much worried about inflation and I think they could be right. What do you think ?
As for the negotiations between the German goverment and GM about Opel,
they are closer to an agreement and Geithner and Guttenberg are on the same page, I don't know whether this is good for GM or not, but I think so.
While nationalization is of the table here in the US, the German Goverment just announced the nationalization of Hypo Real Estate Bank ( 25% owned by an US-Hedge-Fund "Flowers").
I would appreciate your thoughts.

airman, why are you so intent on discrediting John is the question you should ask yourself.... this is a board and John, and now you, have proven yourselves to be pit bulls in regards to your positions.... great... As I recall it was YOU who CHOSE to get involved in defending the College Kid... Now YOU expect someone to give a shat.... If the KID needed to defend himself on these boards then he should have.... As far as John being a Marine and needing to prove his character ..... HE DOES NOT... to you or anyone else..... back up and check yourself.... you got involved in someone else's argument....
