This year, Virginia will likely become the 38th state to ratify the Equal Rights Amendment. With ratification by three-fourths of the states, the ERA can be added to the Constitution. It declares, "Equality of rights under the law shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of sex." Republicans are fighting the ERA in court. They apparently want women to be second-class citizens who are good for bearing children, cooking, cleaning, washing and ironing and nothing more.
The GOP is trying to block the Equal Rights Amendment
The war over women's equality is just getting going and it's going to be bruising.

Republican Senators Mike Lee and Rand Paul joined Senate Democrats today in denouncing a classified briefing given by Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, Defense Secretary Mark Esper and three other administration officials on the strike that killed Iranian General Qassem Soleimani. What attacks were "imminent"? That question wasn't answered. What was the legal basis for the assassination? That question wasn't answered. Why wasn't Soleimani arrested and put on trial for war crimes? That question wasn't answered. Why did Trump take military action without approval of Congress? That question wasn't answered. Are more attacks imminent? That question wasn't answered. Paul said he learned nothing in the briefing that he "hadn't already seen in the newspaper." Trump said Iran "appears to be standing down." Some military experts disagree. They think Iran will try to kill a high-ranking American officer.

Early yesterday, Ukraine International Airlines Flight 752 crashed near Tehran, killing all 176 people on board. Defense Department officials believe it was accidentally shot down by an Iranian surface-to-air missile. "Accidentally." Yeah, that's what they say. Today the House passed a resolution limiting Trump's ability to engage in military action against Iran without Congressional approval. Only three Republicans voted in favor of the resolution and there is absolutely no chance it will pass the Republican-led Senate. Congressional Republicans have sold their souls to Donald Trump and they ensure that he remains above the law, with unlimited power and answerable to no one.

Emperor Trump knows how to stir up his base, the blindly loyal supporters who believe everything he says. At a rally yesterday in Toledo, he made an outrageous – and false – accusation about Democrats, he complained again about what he calls "fake news" and he announced his campaign strategy if Biden is the Democratic nominee: ruthlessly and relentessly attack Biden's son. The blindly loyal members of the Cult of Donald Trump absolutely love it when their orange-skinned cult leader talks this way.

Many Congressmen from both parties are skeptical of Emperor Trump's insistence that an "imminent threat" justified the assassination of Iranian general Qassem Soleimani. Now we learn Trump also sought the assassination of Iranian commander Abdul Reza Shahlai in Yemen. Trump says he wants to end the United States' involvement in costly foreign wars – so why does he keep trying to start new wars?

As usual, Emperor Trump has spewed another outrageous accusation. As usual, he offered no evidence to back up his claim. And, as usual, his blindly loyal supporters believe it, just as they believe every lie he tells them.

Emperor Trump says Soleimani was planning to attack four US embassies and therefore had to be assassinated. Funny thing, though: Trump is the only one saying that. In the 1997 movie Wag The Dog, adapted from the book American Hero, a fake war is concocted to divert attention away from the President's sex scandal. Amid impeachment proceedings in 1998, President Clinton launched airstrikes in Iraq, delaying the House impeachment vote. Amid impeachment proceedings in 2020, President Trump launched airstrikes in Iraq. Clinton and Trump, obviously, are dog-waggers.

Emperor Trump justifies his assassination of Qassem Soleimani by insisting Iran was planning to attack four US embassies. He has provided no evidence. Not even the Secretary of Defense has seen any evidence but, being a blindly loyal Republican, he takes Trump at his word. By killing a top Iranian general, Trump has made it much more likely that our embassies will be attacked. He should have thought of that – but, unfortunately, thinking does not come easy for him.

If any American military personnel in Iraq are killed, their blood will be on Emperor Trump's hands. Trump is much too erratic, much too impulsive and much too dangerous to serve as President.
Four wounded in attack on Iraqi military base that houses US forces
Reuters, Jan 12 2020 8:27 AM
Four people were wounded today in an attack on Balad air base in northern Iraq which houses US personnel. The Iraqi military said in a statement that eight Katyusha rockets had been fired at the base, about 80 km (50 miles) north of Baghdad and that the four wounded included two officers. Military sources identified the wounded as Iraqi soldiers and said seven mortar bombs had hit the base's runway. The statement did not identify who was behind the attack.

The orange-skinned Tweeter-in-Chief is in his usual fine form today, spewing false accusations, misspelling words – attacks were "eminent"? Really? – and once again chanting his tired old "fake news," "impeachment hoax," "witch hunt" and "Do Nothing Democrats" mantras. Donald Trump is immature and emotionally unstable and is a a total disgrace to the office of the Presidency.

In the past two weeks, Emperor Trump has told four different stories about why he felt justified in ordering the assassination of another country's military leader. One reason, which we now know was completely false, is that attacks on four US embassies were "imminent." Nobody in the Defense Department knew about it. Nobody in the Intelligence Department knew about it. No security officials knew about it. Nobody knew about it other than Trump. And how did Trump know about it? He made it up – and then believed his delusion to be true. Today we have a fifth story. Memo to Barr and Pompeo: Carrying out an assassination is not a "deterrent."

I continue to wonder why any woman would want to vote for a Republican. Republicans seem to have absolutely no respect for women. The President who bragged about being able to sexually abuse women because he's a "star" is the prime example. Pete Lucido is another example.
