House investigators issued subpoenas today to Energy Secretary Rick Perry and two associates of President Trump's personal lawyer Rudolph Giuliani, seeking "key documents" that have not been produced as part of the impeachment inquiry. The subpoenas of the Giuliani associates, Lev Parnas and Igor Fruman, came after their arrests on campaign finance charges Wednesday night. The two men are charged with scheming to funnel foreign money to US politicians in a bid to affect US-Ukraine relations. Both have helped Giuliani investigate former Vice President Joe Biden and his son, though the indictment does not mention Giuliani or suggest that he was part of the alleged crimes.

Donald Trump lied when he said he would release his taxes and he's gone to great lengths to ensure the American public never sees them. They might reveal kickbacks, hush-money payments, income from questionable sources, secret deals with Russia, improper deductions – who knows? But we do know Trump is hiding something, else he would release his taxes. By a 2-1 decision, an Appeals Court ruled that House Democrats have the right to subpoena Trump's taxes as part of an investigation. The lone dissenter was a Trump appointee. Of course. Trump may appeal the decision to the Supreme Court. What is he hiding?

Marie Yovanovitch, former US Ambassador to Ukraine, is giving closed-door testimony to Congress today. Trump removed her from her post in May because she was thwarting the efforts of Rudy Giuliani and his two associates to push Ukraine into launching an investigation of Joe Biden, Trump's likely political opponent in 2020. (Those two associates, Soviet-born Trump supporters and donors, are now under arrest for campaign finance violations.) The State Department ordered Yovanovitch to not testify – What is Trump afraid of? – but she was subpoenaed and is speaking today before three House committees. The evidence against Trump continues to mount.

The impeachment process is laid out in the Constitution and Trump's continued defiance of Congress will bring about a Constitutional crisis. Lev Parnus and Igor Fruman, the two Soviet-born men who were helping Giuliani dig up dirt on Biden have been indicted on charges of campaign finance violations. Trump told reporters today he doesn't know them. Trump is lying – just as he lied about not knowing Paul Manafort and lied about not knowing Stormy Daniels. In May 2018, Parnus and Fruman joined Trump for dinner at the White House. Several photos were taken of them standing beside Trump (who was grinning and giving a thumbs-up sign). Soon thereafter, they made a big donation to Trump's campaign. Trump is also now trying to distance himself from Giuliani.
