Guitarist Eddie Willis, who played on many of the best-known Motown hits from the Detroit era, died this morning at his home in Gore Springs, Mississippi. He was 82 and had been suffering complications from a childhood bout with polio. With the death of Willis, only guitarist Joe Messina remains from the seminal core lineup of the Funk Brothers, the revered Motown house band that largely worked in obscurity. The group's legacy was brought to wider prominence with the 2002 award-winning documentary Standing In The Shadows Of Motown.

He appeared in 13 films and 141 tv shows including several westerns and several episodes of Perry Mason but was best known for portraying Benjamin Franklin in a one-man stage show and on television.
