so let me get this straight doctor g? everything can be blamed on liberals right? is that what ur saying? this is why i get mad at conservatives, they break everything down into us and them. conservatism isnt a bad idea, american conservatives have a way of being the worse of the worse when it comes to politicians. thne u have fox news, which doesnt do a damn thing good for conservatism. You guys need to overhaul your party, kick out fox, kick out rush, kick out cheney, maybe u can stick with gingrich and romney. Find away to get colin powell to run the party that would be your best bet. Conservatism is most likely agood idea on paper but you consistently put the worst politicians out there to run things. Bush sr wasnt bad, reagan wasnt bad, although his son ron is a liberal makes me wonder. Once you elected bush jr, without the popular vote i might add you screwed yourserves and your party. Hey i didnt become anti bush till well into his administration. I wanted gore to win but i supported bush when he became our president. I remember having arguments on forums about how i thought going to iraq was neccessary, i still am not sure but with a little hindsight now it seems it was wrong, but either way at that time i defended bush alot while people said we were just going over there to steal oil. Now u have a republican party filled with the worse of the worse. They are busy preparing for 2012 political season rather than trying to help america out of its current crisis. They play you "conservatives" like a fiddle everytime. They know the keywords to be said and off you conservatives go spouting your hate at anything liberal.

hey john how do u know what im for or if im even liberal? so im against conservatives like you that bash my president and that makes me liberal? SO I HAVE TO BE A LIBERAL TO RESPECT AND DEFEND THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES?

Your idea that conservatives have all the right ideas and liberals have all the wrong ideas is completely flawed logic. EACH side can point to certain things in the past and say they are better than the other sometimes with no definitive backup to support their theory.

The main issue with conservatism today is there is a HUGE difference between a conservative and a CONSERVATIVE IN OFFICE. This was not the case up until the last 8 years or so, but it seems that the power that was gained by the Bush administration and congress after 9/11 was mismanaged and the conservatives in office got sucked into this power hungry, quasi-patriotic, "we are over-spending for good things we promise" attitude. They failed in their own ideals and have NO integrity or respect any more from the majority of Americans, which showed in the polls 2 years ago and in November. Also, if the only alternative a conservative in office has to the current crisis and proposed stimulus is to "cut taxes for everyone" instead, they will sink even lower.

What helped the liberals is their lack of insight and lack of action. LOL. They are being rewarded because they basicly did nothing when this went on and are reaping the benefits for it today.

I think the conservative side AND liberal side both have decent ideas, if used in moderation and intermixed with the others. Neither a completely conservative NOR a completely liberal agenda would benefit this country as a whole. I think Obama has done a decent job so far (considering what he jumped into, and remember spending more will help us out of this mess, cutting more will not. It sucks but cannot be avoided atm). He has been far more centrist than I thought he would be, and the proof in that is when you hear about how many Democrats disagree with his strategies. <<<That is a good sign.

Just a note, This is one of those arguments that defies the actual meaning of conservative and liberal in political terms wen talking about the federal level.
My meaning is in the context of this sentence "Conservative(less) use of Government" if it doesnt fit that description then it isnt conservative to me.If it isnt expressly authorized in the Constitution then if the Government has to do something to enforce it, By definition it is a more "liberal" use of government. Obviously the reality is that there are Republicans that have expanded the meaning to incorporate Religious ideals as "Conservative" views though.

I disagree with you saying "Hence pro choice makes more sense than having welfare take care of our youth",Teaching personal responsibility for your actions makes more sense and definitely I think that it shouldnt be used as birth control. Whereas it pains me though, I have to fall back to the point that it is government making a moral judgment that obviously is very contentious, So the Feds should stay out of it. Just My advice would be don't do it.

My whole point of this isn't to get a flame war going but to say that some "Conservative"s take the word literally.

Heres a challenge. Debate an issue all day, and dont use this diction when debating it:
Republican
Democrat
Liberal
Conservative
Try it. Makes for a much better read. :) That way we can detatch your arguements core vs. your general beliefs. As each issue has right and wrong, what works, and what hasnt. Regardless of party orientation or overall woldview systems. We dont ask people when announceing their political agendas whether they are homosexual or heterosexual, christian, or muslim, atheist or god fearing. Each situation has a right and wrong solution regardless of these factors. Id rather hear a debate on one aspect of Clintons decisions, or Bush, than to take the entire Presidency on a liberal or conservative slant. All presidents do things that are both conservative and liberal, christian or atheist, etc... Obama's support for stem cell research , for instance might be viewed as anti christian, and his stance on gay marriages. But his take on health care, social reform might very well be considered liberal and christian. His take on wall street socialistic, and his approach to Iraq and Afganistan can still be seen somewhat conservative.
