Carla Valderrama's book This Was Hollywood: Forgotten Stars & Stories includes a 2020 interview with Collins, who revealed that when she was 15, screenwriter Harry Ruskin, age 50, offered her a movie role if she would sleep with him. She complained to MGM co-founder Louis B. Mayer, who told her, "Darling, you'll get used to it." Otherwise, "You’ll never work again on this soundstage as long as you live." Three years later Collins appeared in two more films (one for MGM and one for Warner Bros.) and then quit show business. "It was the single best decision of my life," she said. "Hollywood is a rotten business. It was then and it is now. It's not going to change."
