Re. AAPL, last week I responded to a Buy signal from my Investools system and picked up 500 shares at 112. I guess that was one knee jerk that worked out ok.

EDIT: You sparked my interest with your comment of dividends paid by AT&T. I'm looking at T now, and while it poses no real buy signals, the big Gap at 32.50 is starting to look attractive as an initial entry to start reaping some dividends which I would reinvest along the way for additional shares. One has to start somewhere, and looks like the price is at a relative low.

It's never too late. Venus, Jupiter and Mars are all still up there and clearly visible in the pre-sunrise sky. To see Mars you have to get up early enough, when it is still completely dark out. The other too are so bright you can still see them as dawn begins to break.

As I recall it was 200 shares of AAPL at about $115.50 cb, yes? Are you holding those and if so, what is your sell point? If you are just trading it around the earnings for quick move, here's an idea: Sell two $118 calls for $.55 or so - this Friday's expiration (Ticker: AAPL1530J118) if it rallys a tad more you'll be selling those for $118 PLUS the $.55 so you'd next approx. $3/share profit, including the premium received.

First of all, I can name only three days this whole year when I arose prior to sunrise; first was Easter Sunday when the wife and I went to the beach for those sunup photographs; second was a few months ago when I went off shore fishing with a buddy, and he wanted to be on the water by sunrise; lastly, four weeks ago I had to have my wife to the Hospital at 6am for her historectomy surgery (she came through that ordeal in flying colors)........ So, any discovery of pre-dawn star/planet sightings will be the responsibility of anyone who has the ability to rise that early.

Regarding my AAPL holdings, I just realized I had lost track of how many shares are owned. Keep in mind that I trade from 7 household accounts at TDA, so with your question, above, I took a look at the composite holdings. Much to my surprise I see it now is moe than I had thought). I presently have no exit strategy, thinking I might take a look when the price gets back up in the 130's to decide if I want to plan to get out or hold............ I wish I could follow and understand all those apparent Option strategies you speak of, but I just have this mental block against Options. Perhaps I should try to learn the basics and dip my toes into the water in small doses just to learn what it is all about..........I'll give that some thought.

I would say that if you are not comfortable with options, steer clear. But basically an option is just an agreement (contract) to buy or sell a stock at a predetermined price and time. There are several reasons one might want to do this which I won't go over now. If you are looking to unload those AAPL shares at around the $130 mark then it doesn't make any sense to mess around with selling $118 calls cause they might get called away from you and you'd end up selling them for $118.

Now then...the December $130 calls can be sold for about $.45 right now.....but I'd wait and see .....plenty of time for that to play out and if/when the AAPL stock price rises up over $120, you'll probably be able to get a higher price for those 130 calls.
