Get ready to pay more for shoes, clothing, toys, laptops, cellphones, sporting goods and thousands of other products. Emperor Trump just imposed huge tariffs on $112 billion worth of Chinese goods. The new tariffs will cost the average American family of four $1,000 per year and in October Trump will raise the tariffs even higher. And yes, contrary to what Trump says, China is not paying for these tariffs – we are. Trump is like a 10-year-old schoolyard bully who refuses to lose, or abandon, a fight. The tariffs are also hurting American businesses but Trump refuses to acknowledge that. He says if businesses are hurting, it's because of "poor management." No, it's because of our poor President.

For eight years, Republicans have controlled North Carolina's legislature and have resorted to partisan gerrymandering to ensure Democrats never regain control. A three-judge panel has called for the districts to be redrawn so the state's elections are "free and fair." But.....but.....in a fair election, Republicans might lose. They won't like that at all!

In the real world, the United States is plagued with crime, gun violence, racism, homelessness, child poverty, income inequality and outrageously high drug and healthcare costs. In Trumpworld, however, the US is Paradise, solely because of the miracle-working power of Emperor Trump: Drug prices are falling and there is no racism, no gun violence problem, no global warming and no Americans paying for tariffs. There is also low unemployment – but Emperor Trump neglects to mention there are more jobs because the population continually increases. Employment as a percentage of population is not at a record high. The Associated Press looks at the many lies of Donald Trump, who "routinely says false things and repeats them as if willing them into being." Democrats mostly stick to facts, although some of their statements are inaccurate. Conditions in America are pretty much as Democrats portray them to be, not as delusional Emperor Trump sees them.

The FBI was given a list of more than 50 people who witnessed Brett Kavanaugh's sexual misconduct at Yale. The FBI contacted only nine of them. Emperor Trump, same as all the dictators who have preceded him, wages constant war against the news media, which he continually calls "fake," "dishonest" and "the enemy of the people." He's now calling for the resignation of all the New York Times reporters who have written about the accusations against Brett Kavanaugh and all who have written about what Trump calls the "phony Russian witch hunt hoax." Trump is a paranoid, dangerous, power-mad lunatic.

California GOP congressman won't seek re-election
The Associated Press, Sep 17 2019 8:03 PM
A Republican congressman in California said today he won't run for re-election next year, making him the 18th GOP incumbent to bow out of the US House of Representatives now that the party is in the minority. Representative Paul Cook announced he will instead run for a seat on the San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors in 2020. California has 53 US House seats, the most of any state. Its Republican congressional delegation was cut in half during the 2018 midterms, leaving the party with just seven of those seats.

Judge orders Trump to testify in trial over 2015 protest outside Trump Tower
CNN, Sep 21 2019 4:41 PM
A New York judge has ordered President Donald Trump to provide video testimony as part of an upcoming lawsuit brought by protesters who say they were assaulted by Trump's security guards during a 2015 protest outside of Trump Tower. Judge Doris Gonzalez wrote in her ruling that Trump's testimony is "indispensable" to the trial and so he must provide video testimony before the trial is set to begin Thursday.
The trial centers around a protest in September 2015 in front of Trump Tower in New York City where two protesters wore parody Ku Klux Klan outfits to protest Trump's rhetoric on illegal immigration. The lawsuit alleges that Trump's head of security, Keith Schiller, hit a protester, Efrain Galicia, with "a closed fist on the head with such force it caused him to stumble backwards." Galicia had tried to stop Schiller from taking their large cardboard signs, which read, "Trump: Make America Racist Again." The plaintiffs argue Trump had control over his security's actions because they are his employees, even if Trump himself did not order them to act.

The United Auto Workers endorsed Hillary Clinton in 2016 but an estimated 28% of the union's 415,000 members voted for Trump because they believed his promises to revive the coal industry and to keep American manufacturers from shipping jobs overseas. (Trump-branded shirts and ties were manufactured in China, Bangladesh, Honduras and Việt Nam, by the way.) On September 15, UAW workers went on strike against General Motors, which is closing four plants, resisting pleas for higher wages and better healthcare benefits and wanting workers to pay more for their health insurance. Trump and the Republicans are trying to avoid taking sides in this dispute. Trump siding with GM is politically risky. Trump siding with UAW is politically risky. Meanwhile, Democrats see opportunities to win the support of those workers who voted for Trump in 2016.

Emperor Trump is an isolationist who believes he, and he alone, can fix everything that's wrong – or that he thinks is wrong. He pulled the US out of the Iran nuclear deal and the Paris climate accord. He has insulted, criticized and alienated our allies while praising dictators Kim, Putin, bin Salman and Xi Jinping. As the Associated Press notes, Trump's "'America First' foreign policy has unsettled allies and shredded multinational pacts." At this week's annual United Nations General Assembly, Trump is finding very few friends and allies and he's not participating in the session on climate change because he believes global warming is a hoax. There is Trumpworld and there is the United Nations and never the twain shall meet. Remember last year when everyone laughed at him as he bragged about his supposed accomplishments?
