WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) - Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner on Monday will release his "comprehensive plan" to revitalize the financial markets, a Treasury spokesman said Thursday. Geithner is expected to explain how Treasury will employ the second half of a $700 billion bank bailout package as well as other program to shock the financial markets out of the recession. The plan is expected to include a variation of a mortgage mitigation proposal introduced by Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. Chairwoman Sheila Bair, according to Senate Banking Committee Chairman Christopher Dodd, D-Conn. Treasury officials are considering a variety of options for use of the funds, including capital injections and the creation of a bad bank that could be used to buy illiquid mortgage securities from struggling financial institutions

Stull, Stull & Brody Announces Class Action on Behalf of Shareholders of Level 3 Communications, Inc.
Wednesday February 4, 7:10 pm ET
NEW YORK, NY--(MARKET WIRE)--Feb 4, 2009 -- Attorney Advertising. Notice is hereby given that a class action has been commenced in the United States District Court for the District of Colorado on behalf of purchasers of Level 3 Communications, Inc. ("Level 3" or the "Company") (NasdaqGS:LVLT - News) common stock during the period between February 8, 2007 and October 23, 2007 (the "Class Period").

Stull, Stull & Brody has substantial experience representing employees who suffered losses from purchases of their employer's stock in their 401(k) plans. If you bought Level 3 stock through your Level 3 retirement account and have information or would like to learn more about these claims, please contact us.
The complaint charges Level 3 and certain of its officers and directors with violations of the Securities Exchange Act of 1934. Level 3 engages in the communications business in North America and Europe. The Company's network and Internet services include transport services, high speed Internet protocol services, dedicated Internet access, virtual private network services, co-location services, and dark fiber services.
The complaint alleges that the representations contained in Level 3's press releases, SEC filings, conference calls, and presentations during the Class Period were materially false and misleading when made because they failed to disclose that: (i) the Company was experiencing problems integrating its numerous acquisitions; (ii) the Company's integration problems caused Level 3 to experience severe provisioning problems which were negatively impacting revenue growth; and (iii) as a result of the foregoing, defendants lacked a reasonable basis for their positive statements about Level 3's business, operations and earnings prospects.
On October 23, 2007, Level 3 issued a press release announcing its financial results for the third quarter of 2007, the period ending September 30, 2007. For the quarter, the Company reported consolidated revenue of $1.061 billion. Level 3 further reported that its core communications services revenue was negatively impacted by provisioning issues. In response to the announcements, the price of Level 3 stock declined from $4.32 per share to $3.18 per share on October 24, 2007, on extremely heavy trading volume.
Plaintiff seeks to recover damages on behalf of all those who purchased or otherwise acquired Level 3 common stock during the Class Period, which is between July 21, 2008 and January 20, 2009. If you purchased or otherwise acquired Level 3 common stock during the Class Period, and either lost money on the transaction or still hold the securities, you may wish to join in the action to serve as lead plaintiff. If you purchased Level 3 common stock during the Class Period, you may request that the Court appoint you as lead plaintiff no later than April 5, 2009.
A lead plaintiff is a representative party that acts on behalf of other class members in directing the litigation. In order to be appointed lead plaintiff, the Court must determine that the class member's claim is typical of the claims of other class members, and that the class member will adequately represent the class. Under certain circumstances, one or more class members may together serve as "lead plaintiff." Your ability to share in any recovery is not, however, affected by the decision whether or not to serve as a lead plaintiff. You may retain Stull, Stull & Brody, or other counsel of your choice, to serve as your counsel in this action. Stull, Stull & Brody has litigated many class actions for violations of securities laws in federal courts over the past 40 years and has obtained court approval of substantial settlements on numerous occasions. Blah Blah Blah....They are in court all of the time.........be back
I know that they are in court a lot for lots of different things and win some and lose some. I don't know what is....I am not an attorney. If there is an attorney on here, would you kindly explain this in layman terms to non-legal beagles like myself and also explain the ramifications to us. Thanks in advance,
There is a copy of the news story up above in a post.
Bill
I thought you got into the Makers last night when I did not see you here this morning..... I cleaned my slate on Wednesday a.m except for my siri and this a.m, I shat my pants
you were right about the chaos on the board, its called buck fever in this country. I had a plan also, had my sell orders in at .19, and cancelled.
What a day!!
I had things to do early this morning..My wife was home sick today..no hangover....I clicked on my portfolio and went, "What the hell??!! As I was wiping the crusty crap out of my eyes I was bedazzled. Then I said to myself,"Self", it is too late to sell. I just went with the flow. It will go up again and is climbing.
You sold all of your stock, eh? ABK should pick up with the mortgage news coming out. BAC went wacko today. Tony (SwornTo) picked it up at a righteous price. Good for him!
OMG, with 500000 + shares, that is a lot of difference between 19 and 24.
Let's see what happens with the financials tomorrow. Ya, it was a rush!
Dow Jones Industrial Average Close 8063.07 Up +106.41
Nasdaq Stock Market Close 1546.24 Up +31.19
S&P 500 Close 845.80 Up +13.57
Well, except for SIRI today, the market really started off poorly and lame but then when everybody got the idea that the economic stimulus package had a chance of getting voted on today the market made gains by leaps and bounds (by comparison).
We have to stay over 8000 on the DOW and 1500 on the NAS to make any gains and have any possibility of being bullish. 8000 and 1500 are necessary support levels, NOT resistance levels for us go get ahead.
Bank of America dropped and hit $3.77 this morning........wow....and then it rebounded to around 4.80 late in the day.
I think this is the 6th time that we have fell below 8000 recently. It was quite impressive that the NAS has been out performing the DOW on almost a daily basis.
There is talk about the Mark To Market Rule being reversed. They should have done that on the original "bail-out", but just don't have the sense to get it done. Maybe it will come about.
Tomorrow morning we get the employment and unemployment report. It will shake the market some direction. Give the movement a 50/50. But on the positive side the Secretary of the Treasury is coming out with new plans for mortgage companies and banks and creating the "bad bank" for toilet paper assets.
This should give financials a boost, but I think he is going to announce it on Monday, but the cat is all ready out of the bag.
My prediction - look for a lively day.
Have a great night.
(Just thinking out loud)
lets hope so....Im not sure whats gonna happen with these financials but if I climb above my cost ratio with a decent gain...Im gonna dump them all!
I think they are gonna nationalize the 3 big banks eventually....We will see..
Good Luck Tomorrow..
Tony, good luck to all of we financial investors. Nationalization is a bummer and I am scared to death of it.
Gotta take the money and run if things get much worse in the financial sector. As a matter of fact, all sectors.
I really think tomorrow is going to be a very mixed day with the employment / unemployment report coming out. That, combined with the bailout for banks leaking out like floodwater today, there could be complete craziness.
Then the f'g stimulus package. ONLY 34% support it now. A week ago it was over 50%.
This goes to show that people are NOT stupid....the average guy does have a brain....he wants to be left the hell alone and not dragged into a "Nanny" government.
I am perplexed with what is happening and how fast they are trying to make it happen.
I thoroughly believe that the housing sector should receive stimulus. The housing sector is where it started, yet they are not going to give it squat. No, they would rather build golf courses and walking trails and shit like that so you can feed chipmunks and squirrels instead.
What do you or anyone else think? (The war is on...haha)
Hey Dread,
The government is making a HUGE mistake getting in everybody's business. Have you looked or heard what is in that stimulus package? You are right about not being able to run a lemonade stand. I am surprised that they are capable of getting dressed in the morning.
If you want to get this government to work, then cut out regulations that are not necessary and quit giving money to crooks. Get out of peoples' business and out of our lives.
I can accept things like local government for Cops, Firemen and things like that, but not in my face kind of government.
