Buzzsaw is Back on Sirius as Boneyard
For those hard and heavy classic rock enthusiasts like myself that have missed their favorite preset due to channel 19 being taken over by AC/DC the last several months, you’ll be glad to hear that Buzzsaw has re-emerged as XM’s “The Boneyard“, Sirius channel 19 and XM channel 53!
There were pretty much only 3 reasons I ever switched from channel 19. When KISS, Danzig, or AC/DC, played, because I’m just not an evil kind of guy. OK, I admit it. I was thrown out of an AC/DC concert during their Back In Black tour as a youth for being too rowdy, and I still harbor a resentment.
You can imagine my personal disappointment when channel 19 was taken over by AC/DC! But if you are into Led Zeppelin, RUSH, Van Halen, Black Sabbath, Aerosmith, Guns and Roses, Metallica and the likes, and yes, probably AC/DC, Danzig and KISS, check out The Boneyard!
The watered down Boneyard is back and has been sanitized for the enjoyment of the casual Rock fan. Another great XM channel has been destroyed by the merger. Enjoy the small repeating 2GB Nano IPOD playlist. The door has now been officially closed.
The only positive is that Eddie Trunk is back on and he programs his 4 hours.
Sanitized? First song I heard was back off bitch by GNR. No censoring at all
I didn’t mean “sanitized” in a censorship way, I meant the channel is now programmed like an FM Classic Rock channel. There’s no more “Breaking Bone”(New Music)in the rotation, the Power/Prog Metal bands have been wiped out, the playlist has shrunk, and 10 bands dominate at least 50% of the playlist. See for yourself on http://www.dogstarradio.com
Wrong!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Breaking Bone is BACK!

Great news. Buzzsaw was tougher and more reliable than XM’s Boneyard — more Blue Oyster Cult and Thin Lizzy riffs, less Whitesnake and Cinderella.
Hope to hear the special segments remain intact; the British Steel spots and Ian Christe’s nightly Van Halen show made the channel special, IMO. Along with the odd Blackfoot and Molly Hatchet track.
British Steel was cool, but they rest of those Buzzsaw shows were pure FM Hack radio.
How about 3 more days of Eddie Trunk and the New Music show back up to an hour.
Ha, we must have VERY different definitions of FM hack, because this Eddie Trunk talk show is just painful whenever the guy is talking, which is like 50% of the time.
Watching the channels getting butchered during the merger really concerned me. As an investor I understand that they needed to cut costs but, as a sub some channels got completely destroyed. Its good to see that they are listening to the customers.
Looking forward to the (wind chimes) channel, and we need a 24/7 Mille/Vanille channel to!!
Buzzsaw kicks Boneyard’s ass. I hope the new Boneyard is EXACTLY this same as Buzzsaw. Check out Octane for new hard rock and Liquid Metal if your a heavy rocker.
You can drop the Octane argument. Anyone with half a brain knows that it’s Bull.
New music needs to be played in regular rotation on The Boneyard and Hairnation. Octane doesn’t play new music from bands like Whitesnake, Sammy Hagar, Winger, Scorpions, King’s X, Extreme, Skid Row, Def Leppard, Dokken etc… XM’s Boneyard played new releases from all of these bands, so far The New Boneyard does not.
Octane plays new songs from AC/DC, Metallica, Guns n Roses, and Motley Crue. That’s it! There are a lot more bands then just those four. Octane should only concentrate on the 90’s and 00’s bands. Squizz had it right. Octane needs to be more like Squizz was.
This explains the problem. Those bands you listed (Whitesnake, Sammy Hagar, Winger, Scorpions, King’s X, Extreme, Skid Row, Def Leppard, Dokken) weren’t played on BUZZSAW. They AREN’T heavy metal, they’re hair bands. They belong on 23. Boneyard sucks.
dread – lets not forget a Bobby Vinton/Polka Band channel also. PS – You haven’t lost you edge, my good man. Keep up the good work!
All about the Boneyard…at least they play fresh tracks and it is not the same artists at the same time every single day. Every night when Buzzsaw was still around on my drive home I could guarantee you that you would hear 1 Jimmy Hendrix tune, 1 Molly Hatchet tune, 1 Aerosmith tune, 1 Iron Maiden tune and 1 Led Zep tune…guaranteed!!….Hmmm Buzzsaw would play standard Judas Priest songs like…You’ve got another thing comming (which is a great tune I know!) and Living After Midnight…etc..just like tuning my FM dial to a local radio station that plays the same top hits. AT LEAST the Boneyard can play tracks like Sinner and Metal Gods etc! What a refreshing change! This is what I am paying for boys….Frigin’ love the Boneyard.
Boneyard blows, Buzzsaw rocks (or rocked). Bottom line. Most of what is played on Boneyard is typical over exposed hair bands. Boneyard plays the high temp songs, Hair Nation plays the power ballads.
Bands played on the Saw: Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Sweet, Focus, Deep Purple, Alice Cooper, Blackfoot and yes some of the stuff that ROCKS from some later hair bands: the Crue, Whitesnake, Tesla.
Bands played on Boneyard: Winger………WINGER! This arguement is now over………WINGER, for God’s sake!
Sorry, Mark, you have no idea what you are talking about. The Boneyard should be about hard and heavy classic rock, not reminiscing about listening to “Is This Love” while trying (unsuccessfully) to get into your girlfriends pants in the back of your dad’s El Camino.
Er…not sure when you’ve listened latley but there has been tons of Alice Cooper, Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Crue and Tesla on Boneyard.
I was so happy that they were ditching the Saw for the Boneyard….When was the last time Buzzsaw played ‘Trapped Under Ice’?….er never cause they stuck to what was popular in the day …hmmm ‘Seek and Destroy’ is a song they would have played.
Again…Boneyard would play ‘Lady Evil’ from Dio and Buzzsaw would play ‘Last in Line’ or ‘Rainbow in the Dark’……come on! I heard these tracks over and over again in the 80’s.
The other day I heard Overkill and vintage Priest (non-top 40 tracks)…never would you hear that on Buzzsaw!
And yes…Winger should be on Hair Nation
BONEYARD = DIFFERENT = GOOD!
Frigin’ love the BONEYARD
Not sure what station you were listening to but Buzzsaw played a lot of deep tracks from Classic Hard and Heavy artist’s. Boneyard has played the same Dio song all week, “Rock and Roll Children”, which isn’t one of his best songs in my opinion. Any by the way for the record, “Lady Evil” is Black Sabbath. The biggest problem I have with Boneyard is that they claim to be classic hard and heavy rock and the artist’s that are played most often do not represent that genre of music. For example I hear more Cheap Trick, David Lee Roth, Dokken, Def Leppard, Blue Oyster Cult, Van Haggar, and Whitesnake. None of which I consider classic, hard or heavy.
Do you want an example of how bad Boneyard sucks? Last night I turned it on in my car and Def Leppard’s “Pour Some Sugar on Me” was playing, Are you F#@%KING kidding me??????? I had to make sure I wasn’t listening to Hair Nation!
Buzzsaw was not perfect but it was 100 times better than this wussy Boneyard! The other day I heard 6 Def Leppard songs in a few hour time period. By comparision they played 1 Black Sabbath song and zero Zeppelin during the same few hours. In fact a Zeppelin song is a rarity on Boneyard.
As I said the SAW was not perfect but I do remember hearing, old Maiden, old Priest, live Zeppelin, classic Sabbath, Jimi Hendrix, etc, etc. Now I hear way too much Cheap Trick, David Lee Roth, Van Hagar, Def Leppard, Joe Satriani, and 80’s bands. The staff at Boneyard are Boneheads!
You’re forgetting about Aerosmith. The few times I turned on the Boneyard today I heard yet another Aerosmith tune! I like Aerosmith but there are many other bands to be playing! Ted Nugent again and again too!
Is it a format they follow or do they not have any idea how to mix artists?
What the hell is David Lee Roth (solo career) doing on the Boneyard?
If anyone is interested is expressing his/her likes or dislikes about Boneyard here is the email address for Jon Zellner Senior Vice President Music Programming Sirius XM Radio, [email protected].
Here is a sample of my email to Mr Zelner:
“April Wine’s “Just Between You and Me” is a song that has absolutely no business being played on a station that claims to play the best hard and heavy classic rock. Take a listen to this song and you tell me if it should be played on Boneyard. Also, I tuned in several times in the evening this week and heard Def Leppard’s “Pour Some Sugar on Me” being played. Now I don’t know how much you know about the classic hard rock genre but these songs are just examples of music that does not, by any stretch of the imagination, fit into the classic hard and heavy category.”
Mr Zellner’s response : “Thanks for the e-mail. Bill. April Wine has actually been in the Boneyard library for many years…might be too poppy. I agree with Def Leppard as well. Will continue to look at it and evolve the channel over time.”
I encourage anyone that is interested in the music Boneyard plays to email feedback to Jon Zellner.
‘Love in an elevator’!!?!…..really!!…come on Boneyard please!
Where is Saxon, Diamond Head, Slayer (liquid metal you can’t understand 98% of the time), Accept, Testament, Raven, Metal Church, Iced Earth, Danzig….i could go on. Boneyard has been disapointing….i will write this Zelner guy to see about playing something truely “hard and heavy”!
The Boneyard SUCKS…Same artists over and over and over again. Bring back the Buzzsaw. It ROCKED!!!!
I miss Buzzsaw everyday.. Boneyard sucks!
So now I listne to hair nation/octane and Alt nation to replace my Buzzsaw.
Oh Why why why…
I am sick of Iron Maiden on BuzzSaw.. I want my Kiss etc back.
I have always had sirius and then I bought my truck which came with xm. I kept my sirius and paid for xm for my truck. It sucked. I actually went and had one of those little radios wired into my truck and have both. XM still sucks. Then XM and sirius merged and xm took over some of the best stations. Buzzsaw was my favorite. The 70s and 80s on sirius was better and xm took over. XM was a bad investment for sirius!
I love hard rock and I am an AC/DC and Metallica fan, but you hear them a million times a day on terrestrial radio. They need to play them less and what is their obsession with Rush? There are so many great bands out there and tunes. Why do they limit it to the same ten or twelve bands. Satellite radio is supposed to offer an alternative to regular radio and since the Boneyard has returned it basically sounds like a terrestrial radio station with its insane repetition and same few artists. The only time it is enjoyable is when Eddie Trunk is on simply because he has great guests and plays a variety of bands.
I wish you all would drop Metallica, Def Leopard, Black Crowes. & Night Ranger. You all talk about ‘rusty’ METALLICA like they are the best group ever!!! B! S!!!!!!!
‘Rusty’METALLICA doesn’t hold a candle to KISS, CHEAP TRICK, TED NUGENT, VAN HALEN w/ DIAMOND DAVE,
I will more metallica in a time span than KISS, CHEAP TRICK, TED NUGENT, or VAN HALEN. There is a change that is NEEDED TO BE MADE!! PLEASE MAKE IT
Why don’t you all have channels of just KISS, VAN HALEN, ALICE COOPER, CHEAP TRICK, TED NUGENT. NO NONE, Never even looking at leopard, ‘rusty’ metallica, blk crowes. God knows you all have the BRUCY SPRINGSTEEN Channel, there’s one who is toooo OVER RATED!
I am an OTR Driver and Boneyard is the channel that I listen to the most.I do have some comments about the music.Bands like
Rush,Def Leopard,Iron Maiden??? These bands should not be played on the BONEYARD!They should be on Hairbands.More Nugent,
Ozzy,Van Halen and bands of there caliber please.Iron Maiden?
They SUCKED back in the day and sound even worse today.
Thank you,Lewis
The Boneyard is far from replacing BUZZSAW. Your DJ’s play crap!I mean seriously, do we need to hear kiss every 30 min! I am tempted to cancel and listen to public radio. Ever since Sirius and XM merged your playlist ( not just on the Boneyard) have gone downhill, and your DJ’s talk to much. If things dont change, you may lose a longtime valued customer
