Bill Mack Leaves Sirius XM
Sometimes changes have unintended consequences. Sirius XM recently announced a new channel line-up that not only changed the channels that stations air on, but had some channels merge as well. One such change was the merging of Willie’s Place and Roadhouse. As a result of this channel merge, The Bill Mack Show will no longer exist, as Mack and Sirius XM could not come to agreeable terms.
The Bill Mack Show debuted on Sirius XM in early 2009, and was popular to country music fans and truckers. Bill Mack did announce that he is not retiring, and will once again reach the airwaves in some manner. In a note to his listeners Mack stated the following:
“There are a lot of rumors making their mark pertaining to my leaving Sirius-XM. Allow me to present the facts:
First of all, I was not fired by the company. There were some negotiations, but nothing was presented that sparked any interest for the future. As a matter-of-fact, negotiations were active until ten minutes before my final broadcast.
I did not exit Sirius-XM because of health issues. My health is super good, thank God. Cindy is also in great shape (wow!). My friend A.J., at the Ernest Tubb Record Shop in Fort Worth, informed us that there was also a rumor making the rounds stating that I had died!!!!! This, I can assure you, is an exaggeration!
I had hoped to remain with Sirius-XM for awhile. It was fun! However, after receiving details of the merger of Willie’s Place with the Roadhouse channel, I discussed things with Cindy and we agreed that it was time to make our exit. This does not apply to my good pal, Willie Nelson. We’ve been “sidekicks” for years … and that will continue! I also hope the new Willie’s Roadhouse is a success.
I also want to stress the fact the I am not retiring. Radio is still a “fun-game” to me. As long as I have a workable voice and enjoy being with my radio listeners (my broadcast “family”), I plan to remain in action. As I have stressed many times, my “listeners” are my bosses. I’ve always referred to those special people who allow me to be a part of their day (night) as being treasured friends! My job was to fulfill what they wanted to hear! That’s one reason we have always utilized the telephone, e-mail … and the post-office. Ignoring the requests/suggestions of those caring individuals would be an insult!
Keep viewing this website for our plans for the future. Some of those plans are already being put to deep study.
Right now, Cindy and I are playing more golf (she keeps winning!). We also think about our “radio family” on a daily basis. Yes, we miss you tremendously!
Please continue prayers for those serving us in the military.
God bless all of you! Cindy sends her love … with mine.”
When Sirius XM initially announced the Bill Mack show Scott Greenstein said, “”BILL MACK is a Country music radio icon and will fit in perfectly with his good friend WILLIE NELSON on SIRIUS XM’s WILLIE’S PLACE channel.”
The loss of Mack is certainly a blow to the country music side of Sirius XM’s programming, but the company is moving forward with content that is unparalleled. I would imagine that Mack will wind up doing a podcast or hooking onto a terrestrial radio station in the near future.
Bill Mack NEEDS to be on Sirius XM. They should do whatever it takes to get him back.
WHOOPPEE!!!!! Welcome Home.
Had to relisten to Willie’s New Year Broadcaast to confirm what Ray Price announced.
Bill & Cindy and Family can’t wait till your back, MISS you all.
When I bought a new car I got Sirius Radio free for six months. The Bill Mack Show is the reason I kept my subscription going for months. Now because Bill Mack is no longer on Sirius 56 I’m seriously considering not having Sirius Radio any longer. I’ve emailed and no response. His love and prayers for our military are one of the main reasons I continued to listen. I wish Bill and Cindy would return with all my heart. We are still praying for you Bill and Cindy and we sure hated to see you go. God speed friends. We miss you.
Does anyone know the exact date that Bill be back on the air. I need torenew my subsciption because I canceled them when they took Bill and Cindy off the air.
We have two sirius/xm radios, 1 lifetime in the car and one household/portable radio. One of our main attractions was the bill mack radio show. He kept us informed about country music history and present performers. A prime example is the quebe sisters who we met and seen perform this past October in Athens, AL. Through bill mack we felt we already knew them! We also appreciate his reverence for our military.
when sirius took over and changed and deleted some of the channels I only kept my subscription because of the Bill Mack Show. I really enjoyed channel 10 America, but they screwed that up too, willies place and roadhouse can’t compare. Now that Bill Mack is gone I no longer am interested in sirius and don’t subscribe
We sure miss you guys on XM, wish something profitable could be worked out to get you guys back on the air. Watching and waiting for your return. God bless
Well I finally did it dropped my XM its just not the Same sense Bill, Sweet Cindy, Trumen, Billy and April all have left. Bill I will never forget how Great you were with the radio Public (your fan) I always looked forward to your show everyday when I was driving. and I will never forget when I called in and asked you to play Swaina King and Willy Nelsons song I Give to my now Wife of three years and Sweet Cindy sending me the c.d. in the mail so we can play it at our wedding. you all made an imprestion in my life and I will never forget it. I hope you all get back on the radio and I hope I would be able to here it in Arizona over all the Mexican Music LOL Stay safe, Health, and wise, and if you ever talk to the trucken Bozo tell him I said Hi.
How depressing. I really looked forward to listening to Bill &Cindy. I would like to be informed if & when they get back on the air. You are deeply missed!
I enjoyed Bill Mack and Cindy on xm radio to the extent that my husband wanted to cancel xm but i won out. Please bring them back soon. It is so boring without them. Sherry Paton
I am so glad Bill and Cindy are coming back. Just get back soon.My husband and i miss your show.
XM has made so many changes since I first signed up that I am seriously thinking of dropping the service. We have lost Bruce Williams, Rollye James, Bill Mack, the third hour of Roger Hedgecock, just to mention a few. I don’t know who is in charge of their programming but they surely aren’t trying to please the over the road driver ! I know that we must be a majority of their business, maybe it’s time to show XM who’s the boss !
I have had two radios one on XM the other (older) on sirius
when Bill left I dropped XM and have only turned on the other once
I really miss ”Willie Wednesday”. Will they ever be back?
Well we just called and cancelled our sirius/xm subscription on our three radios. We got tired of them not putting Bill Mack and gang back on the air. I told the salesman why and he said there were lots of other ‘listening opportunities’ and we said no thanks. Can’t tell you how much we miss all of you and wish you well!
Please please bring Bill & Cindy back. We love them
Missing Bill and Cindy daily – and, his SUNDAY SOCIAL.
There is a need for that.
Whether I am driving or at home – I always tuned in to Willie’s Place….listening to his interviews, history of artists, Hank William’s program broadcasts, and, all. WON’T YOU COME HOME BILL MACK.. Won’t you come home?
Won’t you come home, Bill Mack, won’t you come home. I miss you and Cindy on XM. At least let us know where we can find you again!
please say bill is returning to sirius xm// if it wasnt for dallas wayne id cancel my 2 subscriptions and junk the radios// i hope us fans have gotten thru to them and have let them know how displeased we are for them to allow bill to leave//he was the best dj they ever had//alot of people are canceling// BRING HIM BACK ASAP/// MGM FROM NJ
I sure wish Bill and Cindy was back on XM radio. I really love the old country music. The new country music I dont even listen to. I am retired now but when I was trucking I listened to Bill Mack the Midnight Cowboy and I really enjoyed that also.
I am so sorry to hear that Bill and Cindy is no longer on xm. We loved listening to their show while we traveled. I think it was a big mistake to not do everything in power to keep them. I don’t like willie’s roadhouse as well as willie’s place. I now listen to a different country station. We miss you Bill and Cindy and hope to hear you again soon.
Here’s an idea replace that stupid ” free wheeling ” show if you want to call it a show on roaddog trucking, and put Bill and Cindy back in the drivers seat you can call it ON THE ROAD AGAIN WITH BILL MACK ! GIVE US BACK OUR SATALITE COWBOY,DAMMIT…………………
Amen Brother.
satalite radio just has not been the same since BILL MACK left the air waves. I took a week off driving and when I returned I could not find Mr. Mack; I immediately knew that radio formatting and contract negoiatations were the reasons. I really enjoyed Mr, Mack. He was not only entertaining but very educational. I learned things from Mr Mack about my generation of musicians that I never knew and could not have guessed. love the fact that i could call in and request a song and know it would be played:(that’s what radion should do)after the public are the bosses….I hope Mr Mack and siriusxm radio can reach an agreement…hurry back MR MACK AND SWEET CINDY the trucking world awaits
yes i agree with trailblazer. the garbage that come from the freewheeling show is not worth listinind to. i change the channel to fox news when they come on. i sure wish they would bring Bill and Cindy back along with Kilroy.xm radio was fun back then, but it seems that siriusxm has gone the way of traditional contry music
Thanks for all you have done for the truckers and miss your Sunday show . God bless you and Cindi and your family. May you always have peace and good health. Blessings and Love Sandy
again I must make known my dis-pleasure with siriusxm radio. I at one time had four radios. am down to two; and if it was not for “dave nemo” and “enlighten” on channel 18 I would cancel my radio subscriptions. I personally don’t like the references of our old “road gang” to the roaddog channel. to me it is a degrading reference to the truckers of AMERICA. I surely miss BILL MACK and his formatting. Letting the radio audience call in and request their favorite song to be played is the way for “any” radio station to operate. after we are the ones (at least 75%) of the listeners that support the satalite radio. For financial reasons I think they should listen to the audience.
Bill and Cindt were the big reason for getting XM. Then the merge took place and they (sirius) just kept taking things away from us. Then they took Bill and Cindy away, well then I don’t have XM or Sirius anymore. GIVE US BACK BILL AND CINDY.
Yes, I to am sorry Bill and Cindy aren’t on anymore, miss them. I always looked forward to their program because that was the same time I did my paper routes. I enjoy the program now, but miss Bill and Cindy. Liked it when Max Brown would call in, shes great!
i realy looked forward to the interviews with the older singers and the willie wensdays and realy miss the sunday show with the old gospel songs come on xm bring bill and cindy back radios not radio with out him he’s in the radio diskjokey hall of fame for gods sake. thank all of you for your comments maybe they will get seen and we get an icon back.
Surely Bill will return to a radio format! Hey, do it soon friend, I’m not getting much younger. You’ve given us so much, not the least of whom is Jolie Holliday, amazing Jolie. Brendy & I look forward to more fun very soon.
heard bill and cindy were returning// is this true// WHEN???? jf it werent for dallas wayhne id throw my 2 radios away and cancel my subscription asap!!!PLEASE BRING THEM BACK//MGM ROM NJ
ive asked this question a million tms over the past year/ WHEN IS BILL MACK RETURNING TO SIRIUS XM RADIO ????
really not a comment/ actually a question// ive heard bill mack was returning to sirius xm //has ANYONE else heard that??? hes been gone long enough//mgm fro nj
First it was America with country Dan then Bill.Dave Nemo and truckin Bozo only two left.I retired in Oct,2011 and no longer listen to satellite radio.Wish all the best to Bill and Cindy. They were great friends of truckers for many years. They made us laugh and made us cry but made the miles go by so fast.
Miss all of wild Bill! Most of all the Sunday Social. Somebody get off your ass and bring him back.. how bout his own channel? There certainly is a need for Country on the air waves. Willie certainly doesn’t do it!
I really miss you espcially on Sunday mornings along with you Pastor friend I hope and pray that he is doing ok since his heart attack please give him my best wishes. Sunday mornings aren’t the same when I’m out and about with your phone in gospel request’s. Hope you can be heard soon just to perk up our spiritual lives.God bless Sincerly Albert Busby A Canadian trucker
Really getting tired of being ignored by XM. It is the over the road driver that supports XM for the majority I am sure, but it seems to us that you guys don’t give a fat rats a** about what we like to hear ! I’ve already down sized from three subscriptions to two and if the selection doesn’t improve soon I will be canceling all together. Trucking and Bill Mack are one in the same, we want his show back on air, he was our radio companion that helped us pass the miles. Watching and waiting what happens….but not much longer !
I was disappointed that sirus/xm split and Bill and Cindy left the station. I listebed all the time andf enjoyed all the phone interviews with Cal Smith, Maxine Brown, Charlie Pride and all the other people that blessed my life daily XM. I do believe that there is a need for Bill & Cindy to return to Sirus/XM. Do what you can to make it happen,
Well… what is the freakin’ holdup? Obviously EVERYBODY on Planet Earth is clamoring for Bill & Cindy to be restored to their post! Y’all need to come to terms! How has Sirius/XM improved the situation since letting them go?
We want to hear, in the words of Bobby Darin, “Look out, ol’ Macky’s back!”
Every effort should b made to bring Bill Mack back to Road Dog (open Road). U can forfiet millions to get Oprah and Howard Stern but aloow an icon to slip through ur greedy fingers. Since the merger the Road Dog has become a laughing stock of the radio. U have people such as Chis T and Meridith and Jonsey making a laughing stock of the trucking industry. Bill Mack is needed in this industry and those 3 should b put out to pasture
You are right about Chis T and Meridith and Jonsey making a laughing stock of the trucking industry.I am retired now and don’t listen to radio any more. But yes it is a shame what they did.First it was country Dan.I think he was the first mistake they made.Bill Mack was number two.Country Dan listen to a lot of people and played some music no body else played.I got to talk to him the last night he was on and almost threw my xm out the window of my truck.NO ONE has the music he played be cause it was sent to him from the little people all over the country.Who else plays Roger Allen McGill,Royal Wade Kimes just for two.NO BODY.To all you TRUCKERS out there keep the shiny side up and the dirty side down and the bears out of your pockets.Even though i am retired i am out there i hart and mind. Will be till i die.God bless all of you.
By taping Bill Mack,s Sunday social I sold 2 subcribtions. Since they let him go my friends canceled there subcribtions and some what mad at me to the loss of there investment. Willies place is like a broken record. Take two or three songs from a famous artist and play over and over. I will be canceling soon. Miss the interviews, homey like atmosphere, his fine taste in music not same thing over and over.
I started listening to XM a number of years ago to hear the Bozo. Then I found Bill and Cindy and Dave Nemo. (I had not heard them before) I loved it. Then started listening to Country Dan. I reserved my afternoons for OOIDA’s Landline. I have given up my subscription to Sirius (I don’t believe anything “XM” is still included in the format) I am very disappointed with the whole change thing that they have done. Hey. I am just one past customer that is not happy right? Or am I just one of many? My iPod is my music now. God bless you Bill and Cindy, as well as Dan and I wish nothing but the best to The Bozo and Dave Nemo. You folks gave me a tremendous amount of enjoyment.
I heard Bill and Cindy were coming back. It is the best move XM, sirius could make. I have 3 subscriptions and will likely cancel at least 2 when my year is up. Your loop music just gets old after while.
Now we have lost Bozo to. He retired this month. God I wish I could get a message to him. Have not found a way yet. I retired October of 2011 but miss all three. Bill and Cindy and Bozo. I hope they know of all the years they brought enjoyment to me. All the greatest trucker friends are gone. God bless them all.
I have also heard that Bill Mack and “Sweet Cindy” are returning to the air waves. Have not heard when or which channel or time of day…rumor has it he will be on roaddog “midnite till ???, and that he will host the “Willie Wednesday” but know the time of day on Wednesday that that will occur…if anyone know for sure, please post. thanks….
Well the way I see it is wherever Bill and Cindy go i’ll go. I love both of them even though I never talked to them, I sure did my share of listening and I loved every minute of it….
well first the merger guess well all have to live with it if we want to keep sattelite radio but getting pretty tied of them taking all the good shows off like bill and cindy, nemo, bozo. there are pobably more truckers or affiliated with trucking that has your subsription.Remember everything moves by truck.GIVE US BACK OUR SHOWS.or you might lose more subsriptions. Not a threat just fact.
When you spend 5 1/2 days out pushing a truck and get frightened by cars doing dumb things, it was nice and relaxing to listen to the Sunday Social. I waqs off for almost a year doin the chemo thing, and when I defeated that little problem And returned to work I was shocked to hear that The Sunday Social was no longer a part of your programing. FRom the number of comments, I guess I’m not alone. Just like the government, you don’t seem to listen to the people.
It was with great sorrow that my main access to church on Sunday was with bill and Cindy. Driving 147,000 miles a year covering the lower 48 and Canada I found Bill on WBAP- Dallas many years ago. It seems that the people that make a real differance in this world, for the better, just don’t count.
Bring Bill Mack back. Get rid of that crap on the trucking channel called Meridith andChris and bring someone back that knows the industry. Those 2 sould b fired and banned from radio forever. They give u8s a very bad name. U have done nothing but screw up satelite radio since this merger. That is why I didn’t but a SIRRUS radio because of bad programing
